we will all be fighting it out for a year between us, and them bamm! the clans invade, and we all unite (mostly)
and try and fight off the clan invasion, salvaging there good items and mechs maybe, pve instances and coop missions might be cool
maybe the devs could choose a few really good pilots to be some of the well know clan pilots
and stage battles from canon

Personally, I like the idea, and would even expand on it:
Have the whole of the initial Clan Invasion (that is, from when the clans show up in the IS proper in March of 3050 until the Battle of Tukayyid in May of 3052) be PvE against AI Clanners (who, unlike human players, would actually behave like canon Invasion-era Clanners).
Then, once that's done, open the Clans up to players and introduce a time-skip to 3057.
The Clanners could them fight each other in the Refusal War as well as conduct raids on nearby IS planets (functionally "Border Worlds" as the Clans would be Factions, and would work in much the same way as the IS Houses), and the IS could in turn conduct raids against one another as well as fight the Clans on their "Border Worlds".
Shortly after that, there would be the point where the IS takes the fight to the Clans with Operation Bird Dog, Operation Bulldog, Task Force Serpent, and ultimately the Great Refusal...
Your thoughts?

It will not be a problem to update all servers by creating the content for PVP then augmenting the setting with the AI and adding it to the PVE servers. I realize that the PVE haters will yell louder (see above) but they can go off and sit in the corner with the perma-death groupies and the no (company/dev/playstyle) can do anything right bunch.
Just an idea.

It is profitable for the devs.

The whole trilogy is a outstanding read.
Omnimechs will dominate almost any Inner Sphere 'Mech their own weight class and hold their own against the next heavier weight class, They carry better and more weapons, have more armor per ton, are often faster and run relatively cooler than their Inner Sphere counterparts. That said there are plenty of tactics that can make them easy prey. Sadly most players are incapable of thinking and fighting like a clansman so PVE is about the only way we can get them involved properly. If equipment can be salvaged and is not PVE only, you will see a sad and mass proliferation of clan tech across PVP play when in truth it should be extremely rare to have any sort of clan tech let alone a 'Mech. If done realisticly the cost of maintaining such machines would be crippling to a single player opperating in the Inner Sphere and replacement parts virtually impossible to aquire.

I guess clan tech would be similar to faction or officer mods in eve online. powerful, expensive and rage inducing when lost. It would be a tragedy if fighting clans turned out to be as easy as sleepers or incursions. instead of a fight for survival it would be a grind to acquire more clan tech. CCP said the sleepers and sansha were added into the game to farm players (they totally screwed it up. a few morons got killed when wormholes/incursions came out but you really have to be a **** up to lose your ship in an incursion or to a sleeper these days) hopefully the clans will be added with the similar mentality. I hope if they are introduced as npcs they will be seen as a legitimate threat that they are.

Not this 'we'. This 'we' would be only to happy to have PVE introduced to increase the player base and profitability of the franchise. It should not eliminate PvP but enhance it by easing new players into the gameplay and giving experience players additional gameplay options. Easy to do .. no. Doable... yes.
