This feels like one of many holdovers from their time under IGP's thumb. PGI should revisit a goodly chunk of their store interface to correct these rather egregious misteps.

That said, any kind of commercial transaction is inherently "buyer beware" and the seller is in no way obligated to prevent you from making mistakes due to lack of due diligence. It's poor customer service, sure, and they could probably drive sales by means of good will more than sufficiently to make up for potential lost sales due ot customer carelessness and bad UI design, but just because it makes sense and is the right thing to do doesn't mean they are obligated to do so.

Is this an outdated / mildly predatory practice that PGI should know better than fall pray to the trappings?... "yes".

That said, "buyer beware"... Ignorance nor lack of attention to detail is an excuse for not being cognizant of your surroundings and or the repercussions on ones actions or in-actions.

This is why we have to put warning stickers on toasters to not use in the shower. <_<

Personally I'm all for thinning of the herd and culling of the weak...

I understand the point the op is trying to make
But its really your own fault for being in such a rush
A wild pop up appears "go away and gimmy my thing"
Its got clear and obvious icons depicting your choice, its asking for your input
And yet your just blazing away clicking all the things

Yes its not the most efficient layout but game ui's rarely are
EVERYBODY has fallen for the save/load trap when the buttons are two close
But most of us learn from the mistake of erasing the many hours of play from existence

Menus are often designed from an artistic perspective and this is why things like this appear
Pgi has done very well at removing alot of these kind of mistakes
In beta the select mech and sell mech buttons were in the same place but were context activated
So if you selected it already and didn't realize your next attempt sold it with out question

There were many others, same thing happened with repair button lol and even the sell caution prompt looked just like the repair window

Mistakes were made

However they are not blind to these issues and most of them have been dealt with

Even if they are trying to encourage you to spend mc they have picked a nice non abrasive approach

So, slow down and read what your clicking, advice for life not just mwo

While they did provide you with the tools to injure yourself, it is fully your responsibility for not checking exactly what you are doing before hitting the OK button.

Blaming them when they showed you exactly what you needed to know AND YET YOU STILL DID IT isn't helping anyone, least of all yourself.

Pay attention, people.

If the consumer feels cheated by a practice it is in the best interest of the company to stop.

For MC consumables? Yes. =P

I once blew about 10 of them in private matches because I had maybe three free ones in my inventory from an event, so I clicked Auto-Refill. But then it didn't alert me that I ran out of them, so I forgot and it just started burning my MC.

Which brings up the points that having consumables actually consumed in private matches is dumb, imo.

thats why i never use those mc consumables anymore from those evet. lost plenty of mc that way

Umm... In some sense "yes".

If you are walking through some unsavory and or unfamiliar area and you are oblivious to your surroundings... you bet you are culpable for being any easy victim.

Not disagreeing PGI is guilty of preying on the obvious with this tactic. Then again... As several others have pointed out, there are two levels of "Hey are you sure you want to do that" or what I call idiot pauses before you actually invoke your transaction, so I say again... buyer beware.

Exactly my point! and the absurd is it's only affecting the people who already paid...

It is deliberate.

It is poor form.

Dishonest? In all but name.

I'm not a fan of having MC as the default payment, but on the other hand, when i purchased a commando with MC by mistake, i sent a mail to support and the purchase was refunded.

Read carefully while purchasing.

It is a pretty ****** practice, I know there are bound to be some people that quickly oked a new mech purchase without looking. Not the first time PGI tried to pull a fast one really.

Does no one read anything before clicking buttons anymore? I thought there was another confirmation dialougue after this anyway. Has it been removed?

Not sure if it's still the same, but last time i bought something for MC there was also no " Are you Sure " popup.

Log out: "Are you sure"

Change screen: "Are you sure, do you want to save loadout"

Buy stuff: *Nab*

And thats the one I would actualy like that pop up on.

The MWO Mechbay bug that is pissing me off right now is a consumable bug.

On my Black Knight I have the Improved UAV module installed and the refill box is checked.

Every time I go to launch with that mech the game pops up a message that days something like..."launch without consumables?" Ok or Consumables buttons (or something like that) are at the bottom of the popup.

If I click consumables, it takes me to a module window...that shows the UAV module equipped...AND IT'S CHECKED! WTF!

Ok, resave. Launch in a game, play, go to launch again, "Launch without consumables?"

@#$!%$?#@!!%$!!!!!!!!!!!

I really agree with what the OP is trying to say here, now i don't know if its a cultural thing, but these kind of crooked methods for getting the customer to run out of MC's to sell a few more of those packs flies really poorly with me. I regret buying the Marauder and the hero more and more. It has almost happen to me a number of times that it was just blind luck that i noticed it. No other Freemium game company are so aggressive in their peddling as PGI, its a shameful disgrace. I would rather send my company into bankruptcy then to sink so low as PGI has clearly done.

So yeah i feel pissed.
