This rewards cowardly gameplay.
It has been brought up during the last event a few times, and I currenly see no progress in adjusting this. This seems like it should be an easy problem to fix?

I think this is a false statement. I would argue that they really cant make any real fixes to CW until they figure out the new balancing scheme. Any changes would be a waste of resources that need to be used to fix the core of gameplay. That would then stabilize a part of CW and they could then turn and focus on making CW better. They care about CW, but understand they cant fix that until they fix other aspects of gameplay first.
That would be my guess.
Now with that said, Im seriously doubting a Steam release this year as CW would have to be playable before a release to Steam. And the new balance we will be testing on the PTS will take to long for that.
Again, my guess.

for example, after you die your matchscore is severely underrated, see chart

What seems to really be going on here is unfinished work for some kind of economy where expending mechs hurts

Unfortunately, this match scoring approach rewards directly the selfish player - directly in opposition to the team coordination and self sacrifice that is necessary for CW to work. It is pretty much the polar opposite of what we need and desire.
The easiest fix is probably to remove the "divide by mechs" factor altogether. Is there a really good reason a CW match score cannot be much higher than a solo drop match score?

Playing to use only 1 mech does not represent normal CW play. There is also no way to repair rearm in a match so sometimes ejecting for a fresh mech is the best course of action.
The worst part is back when we noticed the behavior after the PSR patch we couldnt get any explanation. Is it a bug? What the hell is it? Best I could officially get was Russ saying "yes" to "are you aware CW matchscore is divided by # of mechs used?".
