I decided if I'm going to get to level 1, I need an algorithm.

So this is my algorithm.

Play 3-7 games, if you are 3 games ahead, quite while ahead!

If not, play 7-10 games, if you are two games ahead, quit while ahead.

If not, play until you one game ahead. Then quit.

Do that, everyday, and you are on your way to level 1.

If you don't want to play a lot that day, quit while ahead while on game ahead earlier.

Ok... but... isn't fun more important than some random ranking in a game?

You can have fun this way too you playing a game after all, but instead of winning two games, losing three, then quiting, make sure to quite when you ahead. This way, you on your way up!

What exactely do you mean by "games ahead"? Winning more than you lose?
Then all those rules boil down to "if you win more than you lose, you'll go up".
That's a naive algorithm, overcomplicated in some pseudo-fancy redundant pseudo-rules.

Here's my algorithm:
I started with Tier2 80/240 pixels when PSR went live.
I just play (casual, 100% PUG). I get rofl stomped a lot or rofl stomp a lot or get the occasional good games.
I'm at ~120/240 now, constantly going up.

Just play well, then you'll go up.
Awesome algorithm, isn't it?

Also, please try to not blank-line EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE you write. That doesn't add structure, only clutter.

You don't even have to play that well. It's more of an experience bar than a skill meter. I just play and it constantly goes up.

I usually just quit when I run out of beer. Seems to be working for me so far.

Ugh, why do you want to get to level one? I'm trying (without sabotage) to go down...... Or at least stay in T3.

Really? I got the impression, when you lose, your skill rating goes down unless you performed really well in which in stays the same or really really well in which it still goes up.

That said if you win and did ok, you go up.

You need >= 250 match score on a defeat to remain unchanged.
And you need >= 100 match score on a win to get uprated.

I guess >= 500 to get uprated on a defeat and < 50 to get downrated on a win. But I'm not sure, never had those two so far.

All in all, I think the threshold for defeats are too high and those for wins are too low.
PSR is not sane at the moment.

How come when the post match screen says that my rating has gone down, the bar hasn't moved at all?

You're right, but there are twice as many scenarios resulting in PSR gain so, unless you lose 2/3 of your matches and play poorly in all of them you will invariably go up over time.

Something tells me you generally don't have streaks of losses. The bar movement is so miniscule you have to be on a streak to see movement in my experience.

I went up on a loss with a match score of 413 last night so I'm thinking (still a guess) that 400 is the threshold. plus it makes mathematical sense. 100 is 150 < 250 which is 150 < 400.

I don't see why the two are mutually exclusive. Some people like to improve their rating, and can enjoy the game at the same time.

Lots of lets assume in that post. PGI already said that everyone will bubble up to tier 1 or 2 if they play enough and are not the worst of the worst.

I think it might depend on who you are. I've seen threads about people going down on a loss with ~500 damage. I tend to go up in that range, but it all depends (probably on the rating of the other people in the game).

Best equation to reach tier 1:
Do+not.suck^n00b

Try harder, Carry harder. Don't allow yourself to get pesky red arrows at the end of the match even if your team loses.

Do this and you will reach Tier 1 in no time.

The point of my post is that, without exact information from PGI, you cannot decide whether you will eventually go to tier 1 or not.

The official PGI thread said you will bubble up to T1 or T2 under the assumption that every player is improving as they play. If you aren't, then possibly you won't.

I hope your right. I always assumed a static system where x makes you go up and it's the same for everyone but a dynamic system would be much better. I would be a little surprised given PGIs track record but it's definitely possible.
