Two Weekends Without An Event?

With good reason, the last event was ******* shite. It's not asking too much to have regular events that aren't designed by a lobotomized monkey.
That said I don't particularly mind playing without events.
I would like events that encourage people to play different mechs. Like a Catapult weekend where dropping in Catapults earns you 2x the income or something. Or Atlas weekend, 50% off all Atlases and you get 50% more XP when dropping in Atlases.
It doesn't take a ******* genius to come up with some simple but effective weekend events that don't require dramatic "COMPLETE ALL THE MAPS!!!1"-style objectives.
Just my opinion.

Too much?
Nope.
Seriously, I'll never try an event again if it includes obligatory maps... I found Grim Portico for an entire day.
The same for solo/group que, waitng for maps and full of disco.
Worst event eva.
Period.

It struck me as odd that we have not had an event in 2 weeks.. I guess we got spoiled, and didn't know how good we had it until PGI took it away..
But here's a direct result:
Now, understand I'm not mad or anything.. This was completely spontaneous.
But since there was no event... I was like "oh well, since I wont miss out on anything".. I went ahead and player XCOM all weekend instead..
Why is this significant?
Its the first game I've played other than MWO in the last six months since I got my new computer..

Everyone likes the grab bag events. Most even liked the one requiring you to take each weight group, or can only do solo play. I think they should focus on that. Maybe they are holding off to do another big Halloween grab bag event. Maybe they are focusing on getting another PTS server up.
Then again, maybe not.

"No events to skew behavior" dovetails with "calibration attempt" …

If they're taking a break to think about their event design, that'd be OK. From what I read of the last few events (and given the changes they eventually made to them) it sounds like those events were poorly thought out and had some 'unintended consequences.'

And you saw they put it back up to 300 points for the event after that, right?

Totally agree it was the worst planned/designed event ever. I hope the post below is correct.

I hope this is true.

Yeah, this. 30 in the old system meant your team won and you shot somebody a couple times, or if your team lost you at least shot a couple people and did a little damage. I have never gotten a 300 match score with less than 300 damage and usually closer to 400. This might not be too bad in a heavy or assault but it is hard to do it consistently in a light or medium. Which means don't take a light or medium. But I am not sure what The motivation really is to push people towards dropping heavier mechs.

I agree with 1 and 2, but 3 turns the event into just another grind.
I like 1 because it makes the match score needed a real goal for a lot of players. 200 is an actual skill challenge, albeit a reasonably low one. I don't get 200 in every game, so needing a score that high would probably encourage me to concentrate a little more.
I like 2 because it means that players for whom 200 is trivial also have a goal - they can try for 400 to get double points or 600 to get triple.
But 3 just makes it a cumulative match score event, and that's just an endurance grind. Supposed to get 20 x 200 match score? Well now that's really just needing to get 4000 total match score. Some people will do it quickly while others will chip away at it 80 points at a time all weekend. Meh, no skill needed, just endurnance to run enough missions over the weekend.
