You realize that 30 points in the old system is like 150 points in the new system, right? Not 300.

Sort of... that's only true of the damage component. (But yes on the 150 vs 300 part.)

30 in the old system was much easier to reach than 150 in the new system. The old system was significantly less dependent on raw damage to score points.

Old system: 150 dmg (10 pts), win (10 pts), 5 assists (5 pts), and then 5 random other bonuses was 30 points. Boom, done. Easy peasy.

New system: 150 dmg (75 pts), win (20 pts), 5 assists (10 pts), and then 5 random other bonuses only gets you about 70-75% of what you need.

Huh: I've been saying it's the other way around ("damage is only first and second most important, now, not first-though-third") …

That's the point - those other bonuses didn't scale up with the damage. So the highest scoring item is always going to be damage. The only other "high" scoring item after a win (20) is a solo kill @ 12 points - and there are only 12 of those possible assuming your teammates don't shoot. And even getting all of them is less than half of the required match score (144 points before the win and the damage points).

What PGI needs to do is have someone in their office actually sit down and complete one of their challenges while recording the time it takes. If he wants to uninstall the game afterwards or can't complete it, you tone it down. If he had fun, you release it. There is no way PGI plays their own events because the ones like the map ones are unbelievably frustrating.

I understand some people will do whatever it takes to complete certain challenges (because the majority of them will involve a grindfest... a natural result), but on the other hand you have to factor in what is realistic and subjectively judge how likely the majority of active players would actually achieve even the basic reward AND also factor in what the "ultimate" reward is if people "go all the way".

When the effort to reward ratio is skewed, that's where all the legitimate complaining comes from.

Even the craptacular RNG event would suck less had it been like a month long event, instead of a sub-week event... because it is likely that'll you'll get all the maps within a month (perhaps not getting the score, but at least you'll have far more reasonable attempts to get it). It wouldn't make it suck less, but it wouldn't give people a legit excuse to disco because you would be getting a generous amount of time.

Sometimes there's really no thinking done with these things... most notable was the very first event ever held. That in itself was a horrible mistake...

Well, PGI needs those two weeks to figure what exactly went wrong with the last two events clearly! Give em some thinking space, geeze!

A good reason to have an event, actually.

I played it...

Yeah, I played it as well last night and know what you mean. Though I still think it has enough for a weekend of play, if a Star Wars fan.

You guys are totally not selling this game. Was it really that bad?

Yeah, this. 30 in the old system meant your team won and you shot somebody a couple times, or if your team lost you at least shot a couple people and did a little damage. I have never gotten a 300 match score with less than 300 damage and usually closer to 400. This might not be too bad in a heavy or assault but it is hard to do it consistently in a light or medium. Which means don't take a light or medium. But I am not sure what The motivation really is to push people towards dropping heavier mechs.

You just need to carry SRMs on your medium mechs. They will bump your damage up and make you look better, even if all you are doing is sandblasting armor. :D

I'm bummed.

Look, PGI, if you want to remind us that it used to be months and months between events, we're reminded! Can we have an event now? Thanks. :D

I wish there was a UNLIKE button..

It is nice to have weekends where everyone isn't acting like complete garbage to try to get the right "score" or "conditions".
