Just wanted to see if there was anyone else who purposely go against the META to prove that even the "worst" of the mechs can still do good.

Just wanna see what everyone uses and why, maybe even put up the build that works best for you!

I personally make it a point to take my Summoner out since people hate on it for a "clan" heavy so hard. This is the build I personally have the most success with:

SMN-PRIME

I also enjoy frequenting my:

1) Atlas
2) Gargoyle
3) Nova
4) Trebuchet

and last but certainly not least.....my vindicator.

I'm leveling Adders right now.
Lots of fun.
Adders are "bad", right?

I really like them, but I think many people would consider them on the lower portion of clan lights....right above the cute fox lol

if you count Adder (which has been quite good since forever, rest was emotional whining) and Warhawk (had 4xWHK lance the other day. We r**ed the s*** out of the enemies) and SHC (it's a stealth-mobility Mech, people, NOT a damage dealer) then yes.

Most "bad" Mechs are only perceived as bad but aren't bad at all if you play them right.

Summoner, however....
I try on occasion to get anything looking halfway viable in smurfy. I always close the tab in frustration...

Absolutely agree...everyone compares each and every mech to the current meta...and if it doesn't meet that criteria it kinda becomes the target of much hate.

The summoner...the summoner...you know in the beginning it was my most hated mech...now...not so much. That build really let me keep up the mobile oppression palace kinda play. I just run n gun using the JJs in support of heavier mechs.

Oh.
Ok.
Sorry Adder, you are not bad enough.
I'll go back to level my OP Spider-5K then. :(

Lol I didn't mean it like that...the adder I think would be still be considered "bad" enough. We are just fighting the meta!!!!

The problem with the Summoner is: there is nothing it can do better than the Timber Wolf.
Same weapons, better silhouette, more heat sinks (or instead of them armor or CAP or TC or whatever).
Okay, it has some minor positive quirks (including speed, which is nice), but not enough to make it really better than it's Wolf competitor.

Locusts? They'd have to count, even with the quirks. Commandos too. I like zooming around at ridiculous speeds, even if I do occasionally take dual gauss to the side torso :(

One mans good mech is another mans bad mech. It's subjective. I love my adders and mist lynxes for example. My best performing chassis at the moment is the shadow cat and so many people will tell you how "bad" it is. To each his own.

Every time i pilot a bad mech it feels like my team gets rolled. Mediums seam not to matter much but if i take a pos assault it hurts my team.

To his credit, it's my understanding that Russ Bullock makes a point of only playing the "bad mechs", because he enjoys demonstrating that they can work. I've only dropped with him once, during the last PTS session. We were on the same team, I dropped in a Jester and he dropped in a Summoner. And he did get a higher score than me, so I give him props for that.

But yeah, my favourite mech is, and always has been, the AWS-8Q. It feels real good to get good scores in that thing. Stock armament, by the way. 3 PPCs, 1 small laser. I've even killed people with that small laser, after being disarmed.

I run an AC20 Raven 4x. Assuming it doesn't get instagibbed I do quite well surgically removing damaged components and doing damage to the CT of my assault buddy's target.

The so called bad mechs are nothing but a few players giving opinions that others seem to cling to. I can do well in any mech I pilot, especially in a capable team.

The summoner is one of my favs. Uac10 ppc and lrm 15.

For the record I never gone beyond 700 dmg

Awesomes, Dragon Fang, Protector, Thunderbolt-5S mixed build, Shadowhawk-2H SRMs & MGs, Summoner, HBKs and Cicadas are my main force - I usually don't go meta. no timbys, no dires, no hellbringers, no cheeatah, no FS, no gauss+laservomit meta

Yeah - that's how I ended up in Tier 2 instead of Tier 1. :)

Quickdraws = Fun.

When I first started this game, The IV-4 had just been released and these forums were alive with folks talking about the instant fail of that particular design, and the over-sized awfulness of the chassis in general. Had to buy all of them. Repeatedly. So much fun.

Not an easy mech to play, and you will die often -and often quickly- as you learn em, but nothing beats the joy they provide. 2 LB-10x IV-4 is pure fun on Mining Colony. Taking 4 of them on a CW drop invites much scorn, but some of my best matches were with 3 5Ks and an H (with the current 250 DD weight I now lose the H and take a Cataphract or sub out 2 QKDs for T-bolts, etc. depends on map).

As long i have fun in a mech, i wouldnt call it bad. Even mastering Locusts was fun (the little pirate still waits to sink some ships) :)
I use mostly simple weaponsetups, like 3 w-groups max. And i try to mix weapons as its possible.
One of my favorites is the Kintaro-GB^^.
The only mechs i like less are the ones with very limited and weird hardpoints. Like the new loyality Wolverine.
