Large Laser And Ppc Ranges

Before the Clan came into the picture, the reduced heat on the Large Laser and PPC made them preferable weapons over their ER versions, so their ranges were reduced, But, now that we have Clan ranges to deal with, shouldn't Large Lasers and PPC ranges be brought back to normal? The Large Laser is approx 60m short of it's actual max range and the PPC is aprox 110m short of it's actual max range.

Their ranges have never been changed from their BT values. PPC was 18 hexes, aka 540m. LL was 15 hexes, aka 450m. That's what they are now.

For the PPC in particular, its issue is velocity, not range. All the on-paper range in the world doesn't translate into actual "effective" range if the weapon isn't reliable at those ranges.

The LL is just slightly mediocre, having inherited some of its TT properties for its basic stats. I guess you could increase its base range to help it out, but the distinction to make is that this would be longer than their "original" range rather than "restoring" them to that range (because they never had that range).

OK, my mistake. I was just looking at the other weapon ranges. In MWO, an ER Large Laser has a range of 675M and it's max rage in BT is 19, so in reality, it's range should be 570M since each hex is 30M.

In MWO, an ER PPC is 810M, but in BT, it's max range is 23, which is 690M.

Since we know PGI won't cut the range back of the other weapons, why not extend the range of the PPC and Large Laser as they lack the comparable range of the other weapons.

Cutting the IS ERLL down to 570m would make it suck.

PPC range doesn't matter as much as velocity.

Regular LL range boost would be fine.

Weapon range does matter when you do less damage because you don't have a comparable range as the other weapons. Clan weaponry has longer ranges than IS ER even, so when you have weapons with "normal" ranges, while everything else has been extended, that's significant. Because of the shorter range, your full damage is less and you have to get closer to do that full damage, thus taking more enemy fire.

And since I only use old tech, the PPC and Large Laser are the longest range energy weapons for me, so that becomes an additional disadvantage to us old tech/3025 players. Is it so bad to want to be treated the same?

No, the ER LLAS was nerfed as part of PGI's anti-range crusade because a lot of players in this game constantly beg for closer ranged fights.

So the duration was pushed to 1.25s - so it's almost never the better choice outside of specific comp builds or CW matches.

Laser duration was nerfed because Clan lasers killed people too fast. The Clan players complained, so IS laser duration was nerfed some as well.

Interestingly, they begged for closer ranged fights because the short-ranged equipment is total bollocks. To be decent, you have to spend so much tonnage that you also can't go fast...making closing to short range an overly perilous task.

Shoulda buffed short range...
