These new maps are so pretty.
....but why do I have to keep looking at all of them in green shaded night vision?

For the same reason they cover all of them in fog, dust, haze, etc.

You don't. In fact, the only map I've ever 'had' to use NV on is River City and sometimes Forest Colony at night, which makes sense.

You can always run with heatvision on Mordor

While I adore the look and feel of the new Caustic, there are times where I haven't been able to see a mech 100m in front of me unless they're silhouetted against the sky, they blend in with the terrain so well.
Night vision fixes that. In fact, I'd say that it's essential on the new Caustic.
It's not always that bad, but visibility on Caustic seems to be affected quite dramatically by time of day.
There was one match I played where our approach to the crater was framed by a simply magnificent sunset, and even playing on my potato with potato settings it looked so amazing that I stopped my normal 'get there first to shoot curious mechs in the face' approach to take screenshots.

Then I got to the lip of the crater and had to turn on night vision to see across it. You get so much more contrast out of NV than you do with the MK1 eyeball on Caustic.
I'm torn. I like that mechs are camouflaged here, and for the first time in my MWO history I noticed that mechs with brighter paint jobs (like a FANTASTICALLY painted Dire I shot at shortly after talking that screenshot) were easier to see than a mech with proper camouflage paint (a Cicada with camo and woodland colours stationary in a completely exposed position who I only saw when they shot me in the face).
Maybe it has something to do with my monitor settings.

Yeah, hate the visibility issues, particularly since heat and night vision are so ugly, yet you pretty much have to use them.
Mechs don't seem to pick up enough light, like on Alpine, with all the white snow you'd think your mech would be super bright.

New Caustic has terrible visibility in anything other than bright daylight, and for me, the map is too hot for heatvision and too bright for nightvision..
So I'm basically straining my eyes every time I land there...
Not a fan of the new caustic..

Actually I like it if you have poor vision sometimes. Would be nice if it isn't on the whole map but only a few places.
Caustic for example: make the caldera on Yordor full of steam with 50m sight or so but clear view all around it.
This way you'd have a choice of fighting in a peasoup or getting sniped across the map.

Then people will still use NV, since NV cuts through smoke.

River City Night is hellish when both team decides on sniping. I just wiggle my ER lasers hoping to hit something that is beyond the darkness.
