Seriously though, let's do something wonky and add an alternate fire mode to a PPC . Use it as a regular PPC and have a 90m range and 540m max (or whatever it is). Then, switch it over to "brawl"so it has no minimum range and 270m max range . Just like switching the modes on an ECM.
Got to admit, it would be interesting.

I don't know. I think with PGI finally releasing the major nostalgic icons of Battletech it made me realize that the awesome things about those mechs and what made them nostalgic to me... are pretty much bad in PGI's version of Battletech and in order to survive to the end of a 12 vs. 12 match, I'd have to bastardize that which I held nostalgic to the point it might as well be just another mech.
It's true. You could probably get away with using Lore and still be top dog in Tier 4 or 5, but not in Tier 1 or 2.

The single SRM isn't an issue for me because I generally prefer the 5D load out anyways ...

Right now, only the overquirked IS mechs are viable.

I don't know yet what to do with the Warhammer...it depends on how are positioned the ballistic hardpoints on the torsos.
Yes, shame on me.

Warhammer though, I only intend on doing base level and the hero. So I dunno if I'll keep one stock.
I wish PGI would mess with PPC's again before they launch these iconic PPC mechs, but its a pipe dream.
I lived through the poptart days, but they were overnerfed. Outside of range and firing time, there really isn't much reason to take PPC's over LPL's.

canon and lore are what differentiate a game from the generic masses.
You want generic, there are plenty of games NOT based on storied IPs.
I guess Lightsabers and XWings hold back star wars games, too......

How well do you think the new Battlefront game would sell if it wasn't Star Wars?
for some, all games should be generic shooters. To which I must ask...why don't they stick to the countless generic shooters present, and leave IP games to those who actually enjoy the IP?
Crazy thought, right?

according to your canon and lore, the Wolf Dragoons mechs especially Zeta company were all in clan tech, Kerenskys Marauder was all clan tech and later became the Bounty Hunters, and her Warhammer was also in clan tech. Almost every lore storied hero in game upgraded their machine to clan tech when given the chance with the exception of Hohiro Kurita.

MWO has precious little of either. I'd point at the dev with virtually no experience in Battletech, who decided that silly things like working jump jets or an actual heat scale didn't matter much.
