Going to move this over to the off-topic thread, as this discusses nothing about MWO whatsoever.

Am I the only one, who thinks these things seem completely pointless and a waste of time? I mean they look cool but... there are many other things that could be done with the time and effort to make these.... like contributing to society... oh well I guess for the wow factor they are kind of cool (never liked Transformers myself).
For someone who draws, you don't seem very receptive to other peoples 'art'. That's what it is and why they did it, because they're artist's, or sculpting is their hobby at least. Go ahead and pry that mind of yours open.. just a li'l bit .
Aside from their own personal satisfaction, based upon the quality of their work, they will not simply sit in that muddy driveway. Works like that tend to find their way to being displayed; perhaps a fair, or convention.. on top of a slight ledge.. under blue skies.. with eager and cheery onlookers.. perhaps some fences at the bottom of the frame..
Somewhere where others (society) will take enjoyment in them as well.
If museums aren't for some benefit to society, then what is their purpose?

True very true, although I very rarely draw without reason now. I tend to do art now only for a productive reason, or if I have a legit reason to do it. Basically I only really draw if I have a request or if I am doing it for an indie game now.
I mean yeah I respect what they did and from that perspective it is awesome... I just don't know why they did it. Basically my mind spends way more time trying to figure the 'whys' before it can start appreciating something.

Think about it like this:
The fellow or madam in question likes working with metal; they weld, solder, fabricate, etc. Not to mention they're good at it. They work for a machine shop doing industrial-type stuff, but after some years finds themselves lacking the passion they once had. To cull the feeling, they start tinkering with old junk around the house; attaching this to that, bending some sheets of aluminum and tacking them here and there. Before long, they've made something. Doesn't look like anything in particular, but they're proud of it. After more time passes they've really gotten the gist of sculpting with metal, rather than just working with it, thus creating beautiful and unique pieces. So not only have they found a hobby, but if it's on display someday, they have, in my eyes, deepened their contribution to society.
