So, I played a dozen games this evening.
Ran into Sean Lang three times, killed by him once.
Here are my takes.
OMGLRMs!!!1!
LRMs are back in big way, guys. With the hit to ECM and the focus on targeting for Laser damage, I'm seeing LRM salvos on every map, everywhere.
I even got in on the fun, by building a "Half-N-Half" TBR-C (2x LRM-15s, 5x cMPLas), and that was a funnest of the builds I ran. Alpine was LRM heaven.
I'm not sure if this is a good thing overall. I still use LRMs as support/suppression weapons, I don't boat them. But, I can see the weapon system getting stronger with this PTS build and I can already taste the bitter tears of the LuRMHaters.
The EFFING Reticle!
The new reticle flavors weren't bad, per se. I can live with them. But, as Heimdelight mentioned, it doesn't add anything to the game, it doesn't add immersion, there was nothing wrong with the old one, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
As far as having to target to get your LaZor Puke in- I'm not totally against it. But, again, I'm still not feeling it's overall value and it does force you to facetime just a little more to press that R key instead of snap shot and defensive twisting.
Quirkless Poop Mechs.
Shadow Cat is still a ****. Sorry, it needs love.
Nova... I can't help but feel sorry for those Nova Pilots with that big fat nose and wide shoulders. It's like asking to get shot there.
I saw some catapults, but, only because LRMs were all the rage tonight. If not for LRMs, Catapults (and their big fat, punch me in the gut CT) are an endangered species.
Other Quirk action.
I actually ran out my Shadowhawk tonight. No longer the sad redheaded Oliver Twist of the quirkening, I actually felt confident to run out a 3x LLas, 3x SRM 4 SHD-2K and I had fun with her!
TTK.
TTK was the same for me. The LRMs really did their thing and teams were again, pants on head ********. So, I couldn't tell how much lower or higher TTK was when you're getting rolled like a imitation cigar.
Maybe when the structure quirks come in with later PTS builds, we'll see some stronger TTK and love for the Poop Mechs.
All in all, I had fun. It was sure nice to drive a No-Negative-Quirk TBR! And, trust me, the fact that it's a TBR (and thus, public enemy #1 (i.e Bullet Magnet)) is a negative quirk in and of itself.
