Part of the purpose of this idea (along with others) is to have alternatives to big mech packs so Pgi can put more time into other aspects of the game.

And PGI is not doing all this for free. They have to pay all their employees. Alex needs money to put food on his table.
With these weapons PGI would have another source of income and that means MWO will stay active for a longer period of time.
If MWO stops pulling in money PGI will not keep it going. That's just the way it is. They do not want to go bankrupt.

Best of all is that this does not demand much work from the dev's in comparison to making a bunch of mechs that they can sell.

I'd gladly pay for a brace of IS MG's with a more brutish sound....(best word i could find). Right now Clan MG's have a really cool sound effect.
Or maybe a PPC with some electrical buzzing sound when it fires instead.

Hmm I guess none of the "no" voters are willing to say why this is a bad idea.

- "It'll take the devs away from making content!"
Pgi needs to make money so they put considerable effort into making mechs. With a different source of income they can put more effort into maps, balance, etc.

"We don't need more cbill bonuses!"
Well if you don't want it don't buy any. In a F2P game reducing the grind is one of the biggest money makers.

"No pay2win!" Did you read the OP? I specifically stated these weapons would do the same DMG, have the same range at the same heat. No pay2win here.

Now if your concern isn't basically one of these 3, would you please share? You won't get flamed or anything.

Well my dear TheArisen... you have truly made an original, great idea here!

I would full support such special "Brand name weapons", and would like to expand on your idea by adding not just brand name weapons, but also equipment!

Why not have Brand name engines, jump jets, heat sinks, targeting computers, ECM, BAP and such?

In the BT lore there are plenty of manufacturers for weapons and equipment, for both clans and inner sphere mechs, so why not use this?

Different brands could provide some small different bonuses, subject to the new balance pass, but this would GREATLY add to overall immersion!

I know it would be a lot of coding work.. but they are already doing that with the new mech rebalance.. And these bonuses would be smaller than those provided from modules..

Oh, I just had another idea...

if this was implemented, they could sell EQUIPMENT PACKS!

Why not deck-out your mech in (insert brand name) PPC's, engine and heatsinks for combined bonuses? Or even better, you could take up a contract for a particular company like saaay, Magna Hellstar, and they would sponsor you for a set period.. every time you killed someone with their equipment, they would reward you with a small cbill boost, and that message "Has killed with Magna Hellstar PPC! would be like a commercial for them...

And then after your contract is up, your legendary mechwarrior skills could be used to sponsor a different brand name..

And all this could be sold for MC and cbills.. which would give PGI yet another way of making money.

P.S.

And just imagine how cool all this would look like implemented, and added into a Solaris mode..

I like this idea but obviously they would have to go for cbills, otherwise it'd be p2win.

Another NO vote with no explanation. I'll bet none of them read the OP beyond it's title.
What's with people? You'd think they got 1-3 minutes to spare to make a post if they got the time to look through the forums.

I would accept this change with the condition that a new balancing system would be introduced. I think this topics ideas would make adding premium weapons to the game possible:

http://mwomercs.com/...ks-a-non-tt-bv/

Otherwise I can't see how it would work. Just being honest here.

I like the idea in that thread but I don't understand how it relates to premium/hero weapons. The idea is that these premium weapons would have the same stats as regular weapons with the added boost to cbills/xp/loyalty and that's it. Therefore these weapons would have the same BV as their regular counterpart.

I admit I sort of interpreted the OP in away that the weapons would be better statwise. But yeah I still think that it would be for the best if this was implemented with BV.

I think this idea can work without BV. These weapons wouldn't have more or less BV than their regular counterparts. BV is a plausible idea but it doesn't have anything to do with hero/premium weapons.

On a side note, I wonder how many "no" voters didn't even read the whole OP?

You should have written a title that could not be missunderstood. Something like - Weapons for MC with C-bill/ XP/ Loyalty bonuses.

Awww....who am i kidding? They would still take the same conclusion once they saw weapons and MC mixed in the same sentence.
They can't even read a short sentence like that without their attention span wandering off.

BV? But battlevalue has nothing to do with it....same damage, range, heat, weight, etc as normal weapons.
Why should that be given a battlevalue? I got a different sound when my MC bought PPC fires....there fore the weapon is more powerfull?

That doesn't make sense.

I have to agree. Believe it or not, some people want the game "finished" before we get anything else. It's like they don't realize f2p games are always adding & tweaking things.

I almost voted no just from the title. Then I voted yes after I read your post. I think a lot of people are voting no because they haven't ready your original post.

Yes, different bonuses for different weapon manufacturers. There are some old posts out there detailing this suggestion, and I think it is a great idea, as long as these weapons could be bought for C-Bills. (because they give real advantages)

Think about Borderlands, where each manufacturer has a specialty (damage, rate of fire, etc.). The bonuses should be very small (up to 5%), and maybe not stack with quirks (to avoid super meta builds), but that's a good way to customize even further your mechs. Of course, the weapons could have different sounds, effects and even geometry. Would it make the game (and the mechlab) too complex? Maybe...

I'm against "salvage boxes" (with random stuff) because that could lead to really bad microtransactions, like paid keys for opening boxes and paying real money for getting more boxes.

There is absolutely no p2win in this idea. It'd be like premium time.

Also, if these weapons got different sounds/geometry we could spiff up our mechs a bit. Perhaps they could sound different as well. Another possibility would be that the weapons could have different colors to further distinguish them.

While I would not remove Mech Packs, there are other things they can do that might require less effort from the art department. They can have branded weapons that increase XP/Loyalty earned. For example:

Posted Image

Magna Hellstar PPC - +5% Mech XP earned.
Donal PPC - +5% Loyalty Points earned.
Kinslaughter PPC - +3% C-bills earned.

Martell Medium Laser - +1% C-bills earned (max 6%).
Diverse Optics Type 2 Medium Laser - +1.5% Mech XP earned (max 9%).
Omicron 4000 Medium Laser - +1.5% Loyalty earned (max 9%).

Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC - ...you get the idea.

Posted Image

Other things to note.

When the enemy checks out your mech, they see the full name of the weapon instead of just generic LB 10X AC (they should see Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC or something.

These weapons should be of a different color in mech lab and when seen by the enemy (just follow the MMO color code of green blue purple orange).

Posted Image

Higher 'quality' weapons can just combine bonuses.

Green - XP, Loyalty or C-bills
Blue - Two of the above
Purple - All three
Orange - All three and slightly higher. Can only equip one of this.

This doesn't require much work from the art team, but will require coding to include the new system and update the end of match rewards.

Also as a bonus:

PGI can make limited use branded weapons. Meaning these weapons have a certain number of matches before they break (paid ones should not break). But to give them out for free without flooding the market, each type can be given as prizes, end of match rewards or loot boxes and have 5-30 uses each before they break and disappear.

If you want to be sneaky, include the kill count on the temp weapons and before they break, give the player an option to buy it for MC to make it permanent and it retains the kill count stat.

Edit:

Other bonuses could include a chance of refunding a decent percentage of c-bill consumable costs at the end of the match should you happen to use one or send messages in the battle such as:

"Elizander has been killed by EliteMechWarrior's Magna Hellstar PPC!"

For the permanent weapons, add a kill counter ala Dota 2 items or a damage counter. Make friendly kills reduce this number too.

It is an interesting idea, but I would prefer the ability to pay to make my regular mech get permanently the hero C-Bills bonus. I mean, I'm quite heroic on my Banshee 3E...

PS: A loyalty bonus for playing with the preferred mechs of your faction would also be cool, because it gives more lore accurate CW matches.

Well with hero weapons you can have more than just your 3E with a cbill bonus. It's not like these weapons would be hard locked into a single mech.

I know, I just think the system might be too complicate... (maybe the game would even demand more resources)

We can combine hero mechs & premium time without any issue. Heck, you can bring 4 hero mechs to CW without any problem. I'm confused by your reservations.

But getting a bunch of altered stats on a weapon instead of a C-bill bonus is much more complicated. Your kinda contradicting yourself here.....XP
But yes i'd be fine with either option.

I think there's a difference between saying "this would be cool" and "Pgi should implement this". I'm pretty sure Oda knows it'd be a nightmare to balance weapons with different stats in a PvP environment. Perhaps it could be a thing for PvE whenever we get that.

For the record, I'd be happy with being able to buy a cbill bonus for my mechs themselves. I just like the idea of having different color/design, etc, for weapons.

I was thinking about this idea recently and the question I have is this, should all these boosting weapons cost the same price? Should a gauss rifle cost the same as a medium laser? I'm not decided.
