Having all sorts of problems with a budget upgrade on a friends machine. If you are using an AMD 970 Chipset motherboard can you please post specs here. (long shot)

Here-tell, this is the only 970 with a full eight phases to it's VRM

What was the computer set up like before the upgrades? And what was changed?

System was a core2 quad q6700 with 4gb ddr2 800mhz on an asus board...

Board: Asus sabertooth 990fx
Bios. Whatever the factory provided
Ram: Kingston hyper X 2x 8 gb @ 1866mhz
Gpu: Asus styrix 970
Psu: gold rated corsair 750w
OS drive: Kingston hyper X fury. 240gb
OS: Windows 10 pro

No issues with this machine since I built it.

Do you have any experience with this board? This is the one I have and apparently it does not have any way to lock the pcie at 100mhz... Considering the FX responds well to base clock overclocking or a combo of base clock and multiplier this is a huge downside in my mind.

Have a Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 with 990X/950 NB/SB so i do not qualify (runs great since late 2011).

Did you do a Bios Update?
Did you do the right Bios Settings?
Did you do a clean install of Windows?
The PSU should be ~1/3 bigger than needed for increased lifetime and stability from a known Quality Brand (i do use Enermax 625W).
