Expect lots of bans to happen. Best turn off VOIP and chat and avoid skirmish mode where being smart is against the rules.

I think it's going to cover those guys who die with 15 damage in the first 30 seconds and then spam chat with how bad the team is, how everyone else sucks, how they are better than everyone else, etc. for the rest of the match non-stop. God I hope it does anyway.

They're trying to convince themselves they didn't do as bad as they obviously did.

I don't know, but telling a player their 12 flamer nova is a complete H.S. build and colorfully requesting they stop dropping in similar next to 0 output builds - is pretty constructive in my book.

Someone who spends the entire match, for example, going on at length about the mating habits of South African swallows is not at all being constructive.

...African swallows are non-migratory.

While admirably 'Murican of you, hardly suitable in an online environment where beating up the other guy is, in fact, what you're sorta there to do in the first place.

There are people who will abuse it--similar to folks who report every single post they are slighted by.

And these aren't our parents at PGI. I swear there is so much coddling in this world these days. Look at someone's 'mech wrong and you're going to have a mexual harassment suit on your hands.

Bob Player: "That's a nice paintjob you have there! I love the colors!"

Mechanist: "What did you say?"

Bob Player: "I love that paint job..."

Mechanist: "I can wear whatever paint job I want!"

Bob Player: "Okay..."

Mechanist: "Typical. Always going on and on about looks. Is that all that matters to you, buddy? Am I simply a bucket of bolts with a fusion reactor welded inside of me? Is that it? You sicko! I am reporting you!"

Bob Player: "But..."
Mechanist: "Reported!"

Of course, I'm not the one that has to deal with it. But there are players that will report anything and everything--even do it because they don't like someone. Until you have been a victim of that kind of behavior, you won't understand.

What does it matter if someone wants to carry on about African Swallows? Its not like pugs ever use the chat to actually communicate with their own team anyhow.

For real. There used to be a great button for nonconstructive chat--the mute button. Don't like what one player says... well, mute them!

Frankly I like Australian or New Zealand swallows myself. There's so small and cute. Those little kiwi bodies and those wings, how they frisk the air--I bet they could handily defeat a Samoan one if you set them up for a duel.

That's the short bus.

Now... the rules I always told the kids on my school bus the first day "Siddown, shuttup and don't bite your neighbor." It always amazed me how many did not follow all three.

You're right. PGI isn't our parents, but the are the home owners of the party we are attending. And when you're at someone else's house you go by their rules.

But as I said before, this is a complete nonissue since you're assuming that everyone who gets reported for something will get punished for it. That's not going to happen.

Discussing the latest sports results in chat, coming out of the closet in chat, that sort of thing.

I think the only people really worried about this are the people that have reason to worry - guys who type ggclose after a 12-0 stomp, guys who talk smack in chat non-stop about scrubs and noobs, etc. Honestly, as was stated before, if you don't act like an @$$hat, you really don't have anything to worry about. If you do act like that, well, I guess you'll be getting what you deserve.

This ******** they introduced in form of "non constructive chat" is just another form of opression and tyranny with those which deliberately wanna screw random people they don't know up by reporting them or threatening to report, therefore intimitading and using psychological warfare against players to degrade their game performance capability

IT IS A THREAT TO COMMUNITY AND I DEMAND PGI TO IMMEDIATLY REMOVE THIS REPORT OPTION!

There is also space for other random reports out of thin air, like a generally talkative person can be reported for "spamming", players which love rush tactics, (play to the fullest, die early) can be reported only due to their playing style, people which have network issues can be discriminated and reported for "disconnecting", people can be reported for "team killing" for responding with team damage against somebody who team damaged him first.

It is a day of great sorrow that PGI introduced this,so from Tuesday, October 20th @ 10AM – 1PM PDT I officially reject to play game until these draconian measures are removed.

I don't think people will disagree with banning an a##-hat, I personally don't like ambiguous wording and rules that are wide open for interpretation.

Dude. Dude.

First of all: Piranha can tell a Net termination from an intentional disconnect. Net dropping means you exit the game without use of the 'leave game' function, and if they can't track that they are not even remotely doing their jobs.

Second of all: Piranha will not action every case in front of them. if you have to disconnect or AFK because your girlfriend spontaneously combusts, that's once in a series of otherwise normal games. That's a case of "Okay, he disconnected once. Stuff happens." What they're looking for is patterns of repeated behavior, not single isolated incidents. If you disconnect once because you hear the mailman @&%!ing your dog in the front yard and you need to rush out and defend Rover's virtue, that's not going to get you in trouble. if you intentionally disconnect half the matches you play every day, that's going to get you looked at.

Third of all: you had better believe that players who make frequent and spurious use of the report tool will be put on an internal Piranha 'Ignore this schmuck' list. They're not going to waste their time with people who use all five of their reports every single day, and whose reports never amount to anything. if you cry wolf, you're quickly going to find yourself sending your reports straight into the round file.

Calm the Shatner down, man. It's not the Apocalypse. This sort of functionality is standard equipment in practically every other decently successful online game out there. It hasn't blown up any of those yet, eh?

Fair, but you also have to realize that in this case, precise and strictly defined rules are far too easy to end-run for people determined to be f***buckets. "But you didn't say this was against the rules!" is an argument trolls use at the first opportunity, so moderation teams almost always leave a "or in the best judgment of the mod team" rule in their anti-f***bucket procedures somewhere. There has to be some leeway for the mod team to be able to say "Look...you're a f***bucket. Stop being a f***bucket or you're out," even if the f***bucket in question is technically staying within what is commonly perceived to be the rules whilst making himself into a toxic f***bucket.
