If you consistently go AFK then you get reprimanded because you're expected to play the damn game when you queue up for a match.

Real life interrupting your matches too much? Too bad, sort it out somehow or just don't play.

I think what many are saying is that they'd rather give the player the benefit of the doubt instead of joining the countless masses who will just drown PGi with reports simply because "that's their job to find out".

There isn't really much benefit of the doubt to give, because the situation is binary.

Is the player participating in the match they signed up for?

If yes, don't report them.

If no, report them for not participating.

For whoever thinks they're entitled to be exempt from the rules because of their special circumstances, that is being immature.

Of course, it's not realistic to expect that everybody be 100% committed to their match no matter what happens, and that is reflected in the rules as well, but if somebody breaks the rules and then they manage to also get punished for it (which in this case would mean consistently not participating in matches before they are actually punished) then it's their fault no matter what the reason is, not anybody else's fault.

People are free to do whatever they want because there's nothing physically stopping them from abandoning their current match to take care of the baby or whatever, but that doesn't mean there won't be consequences for their actions, and trying to worm out of those consequences because "I'M A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE BLUH BLUH BLUH" is pathetic.

In the World Cup, hopefully the team has a substitute.

Having said that, MWO is a video game for shits and giggles, not a high-stakes competition.

it might not be a high stakes competition but your team is absolutely sinking 10 minutes of their time.

the guy below my comment is just using strawmen; i said if you gotta run you can do it - but if your baby cries that much you are expecting to go afk frequently so = repeat offender.
you should consider that, and go play something more casual; even if this game is casual is not turn based or anything

It's childish and ridiculous.

What's childish and ridiculous is rationalizing reasons why you shouldn't be reported for breaking the rules.

That's probably what I would do, too.

But I disagree with telling anyone else to do that because "reasons." Because all of those "reasons" are invalid.

Don't tell me (or anyone else) that I shouldn't report someone who goes AFK in the middle of a match because, in fact, PGI says that we should. If you want to make a personal choice to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, great! But the guy shouldn't expect to be given the benefit of the doubt because he's breaking the rules and PGI says we should report him.

There's no "issue with language in patch"... the OP just doesn't want to be reported for breaking the rules. Because reasons. It is absolutely, 100% correct to report someone in the OP's situation.

Wow, everyone's getting so pent up about a damned video game. I see AFKers in about one quarter of my games, but 90% of the time it's easy to see that it wasn't intentional. Games can take minutes to find, so many players walk away or alt to do stuff while waiting. Sometimes they come back late, whatever. Sometimes I see mechs suddenly stop in the middle of combat, real life happens, I'm not fussed.

The only time you should get upset about AFKers is obvious intentional cases, where the player is either AFK farming or rage quits/hides in Skirmish with the intent to make everyone wait.

By reporting them all to "just let PGI deal with it" you are taking up valuable human resources that could otherwise be used to track bugs or deal with players intentionally breaking the rules. You're not helping anyone

PGI says otherwise.
