Really really not enjoying the new Caustic map, at all.

I think they need to scrap it and start from scratch.

Go with a totally different layout, totally different design and bury this terd.

Caustic is bad. Unless you happen to bring LRMs then the lack of cover is exceptionally awesome.

New Caustic is ok but you still nascar around the middle like a tornado of ants.

They need to just make a new Caustic, not beef up the cover on old caustic. Something without a raised center.

New Caustic encourages the NASCAR even more, I think, because the crater is now harder to get into and out of.

I had more fun on the old one too. I think it's mainly down to visibility for me, I don't enjoy low vis much. Also doesn't help that caustic now pops up way too much, so getting quite bored of it.

New Caustic plays like an uglier and even more cramped version of Terra Therma.

The terrain is just so frustrating, I feel like I'm fighting it more than the enemy most times with as often as I get stuck on random jaggy rocks and ramps.

I'd like to see both caustics in rotation.

The New Caustic terrain impedes movement so much, what with the impassible knee-high ridges everywhere. Additionally, places that used to be usable avenues to flank are now just sheer cliffs. The whole map has been bottle-necked just like their horrendously badly designed CW maps. It's pretty terrible.

Also, they need to stop adding ridiculous amounts of fog to maps. It's not fun. It's just ugly and frustrating.

Worst part is the visibility. PGI goes out of its way to make these awesome, big new maps then covers them in this film that makes me think my monitor has died a little.

Caustic, IMO, did not need a remake. Yes it was nascar city....but so is the new one. Other maps need a remake far more than Caustic did (like Alpine). What pisses me off was that Caustic actually had probably the highest number of non-steamroll games. 8-12 or closer games were common and some of the best and closest matches I've had were on the old Caustic. I had actually regarded Caustic as one of the better maps and I was somewhat bewildered when they decided to allocate resources to remaking it.

My Caustic NASCAR lap time has gone down. It takes longer to get all the way around after the changes. I demand a review by the judges.

I also find the new Caustic to be worse. I like the decreased visibility and added fog - I think it really helps the gameplay on all maps by making mechs harder to see, which really gives you more options to maneuver as a player. But then the changes to the terrain on Caustic impede movement to the extent that it's just not fun to play on. I can handle a map like Bog, where movement is pretty unrestricted - it's just debris here and there that you need to navigate. But the changes to Caustic are a sin.

I don't notice any fog or anything, but then again, I have my graphics settings set to the lowest possible settings. :)

Yeah I prefer old caustic's design.

This map is now dark at night, with so much heat and smoke that heat vision is a mess, night vision is a mess.

Daytime is hazy, more smoke.

Now, instead of larger or small NASCAR circles, you get super intense micro-NASCAR (a trend that was developing) most matches because its too long, and too ponderous to try and circumvent all the giant rocks around the crater.

Maybe all the new maps have such poor visibility because they are designed with the new infowar range reductions in mind?

I spent a week working on my King Crabs and every time the new Caustic popped up I felt like hitting Alt-F4. All of the fog/smoke/dust is bad. It's so dark at night but night vision is useless and heat vision doesn't work with the high ambient temperature. And worst of all is the new "cover". It feels like they took every pebble and ankle high rock that stopped your mech from the other maps and dumped them here. Then they added all of those rocks leading up to the caldera that form a narrow passage not much wider than your mech. If you're between two teammates you're stuck there unless you have jump jets. And it gets a hundred times worse if you're in a slow assault mech.

They need to remove about a quarter of the new cover around the caldera, especially along the three line.

I said something similar in the original New Caustic thread. I think they are using the clutter to mitigate the long range laser-gauss.

I honestly wonder what would happen if they took that entire center of the map, and leveled it out closer height-wise just to get it overall much flatter.

Then add some Lava or Steam tubes scattered around the center area, instead of having this giant empty dome to run around.

Basically keeping with the visual style of the map, but giving it that urban block feel to it.

That or start stripping all the extra rocky buildup away from the crater so it has less forced chokepoints going on.

I think that is what was good about the old map, you could literally keep your distance, but be fighting and trading the entire time across the caldera as you moved around or back or wherever the flow went.

With the center as it is on the new version, its just feels like that entire center is blockaded and now NO trade combat at all takes place, you literally have to get the murderball within 200 meters just to start the exchange.. and that stinks.

I don't. I hated how the entire map was centered around the middle. Now you can actually make use of the terrain and go somewhere else. Too bad people still insist on going middle. Either they do that because they are really stupid and don't see the obvious advantages other positions have or are unable to adapt.

Also old caustic had that really bad spawn spot for assaults that if you happened to spawn there and enemy team rushed it, you would get caught alone and died before you could get your team to help you.
