So I bought R2 for the Mauler, all time fave, but I've been just ridiculously excited about getting the wolfhound for some reason. Got it, love it, but until it dropped yesterday I couldn't remember why I have been avoiding buying lights for a long time. I love running them, do well in them.
And then I remembered: they are freaking expensive.
Several months ago I learned the beauty of semi-stock mech builds. Standard engines, weapon loadouts similar to stock that play to the mech's strengths, provide good DPS without trying to stuff all of the largest, hottest most alpha-centric builds on every chasis, usually only upgrading to DHS and maybe ES. Nice, versatile, good performance mechs that are faily cheap to buy.
And then the lights.
I didn't replace an engine on the maulers....I didn't on the black knights....I didn't on the crabs, but now the wolfhounds. I've decided to run two of them stock engine, sub 100 kmh be damned. The two that I upgraded to xl engines for higher speeds cost me dearly....upgrading to DHS on all but the one chasis, a few ES, a few FF and two XL engines and I'm down 20 million cbills.
Those are some expensive tricked out go carts.

Yeah one needs to be rich to equip the new toys. Is it any wonder why the top dogs farm in solo constantly. PGI just created a vicious cycle where anyone in the tryhard condition is forced to exploit others just to stay ahead.
I said screw it and won't buy another thing until which time common sense enters PGI management. That means I have probally spent my last dime until the game dies.

Hah, why keep the XLs on the Mauler?
Sell them off man! get some moniz for a STD 300 and then some upgrades
For the wolfhound, just sell all equipment on all 3 of your wolfhounds (or two if no early adopter variant) and just upgrade one.
When you're done with the first, just simply transfer the XL to another variant and upgrade it with the cbills you've earned in the previous wolfhound.
Rinse and repeat, and you should be able to outfit all of them with the latest upgrades in no time
At least, that's what I do with IS mechs I preorder.
