Nope more options, less wait time. Plus, most players just play assault as death match anyway so Your argument is kinda invalid.

What we used to do (as a team/ not PUG) was set up a defense near our base and have the scouts find the enemy. We crushed the enemy scouts and then went where our scouts said the rest of em were.
We cant have that in PUG, but since so few matches end in a cap, I don't see the problem with ninja wins.

I can never relate to that as for me searching takes only about 10 to 60 seconds.
Also, I hardly ever see assault to play out like you describe.
Why:
Because when the enemy rush to the base, neglecting their defense, they are easy prey. Ever since a few weeks after turrets disappeared, I have NEVER seen an assault game be one by an all-in rush.
I guess you encountered 1-2 of those rushes with a team not able to handle it and now you blame the game mode.

So this is why people complains about waiting times, I have assault and skirmish modes selected for Europe and NA and my wait times are 90% of the time under 30 sec. And rarely I see cap rushes.

Set up your entire team to ambush their lights and fast heavies as they get on your base.
Vastly outnumber their assaults.

ok, not every game is like what I described... but its not 1-2 games either. its 50/50. Chances are you waited awhile for queue and end up getting a match that lasts maybe 2 minutes. and this doesn't happen all the time either. its 50/50
My opinion of the assault mode is half the time, it is over too quick.

If I wanted to play Nascar, I'd install the EA Sports version...
Also, Conquest has become boring, since it's basically skirmish, with the ability to loose a 10:2 kill lead to a single light.

The level of non thinking required for that is execptionally low, and very common on the forums almost a race like and assualt match. It's who gets on first to discount the OP.
PS OP, Had two matches exactely as you described last night. The thing is that is the goal of assault so better to have a plan with teammates at the start if you don't want to base rush. Or Just enjoy the ride like I do. Last one like that last night I had 66 dam and overall one kill between 24 players. It was over pretty quickly. No big deal on to the next one.

What should happen is you manage to convince your team to NOT race to the enemy base; move towards it at the assault 'mech's pace, while your light lance scouts forward. When the light lance finds the enemy, they should return to the main force, which will set up to receive the other team trickling in lights first, then mediums and fast heavies.
You should be able to outnumber and defeat them rather handily, and after that you can just roll over the enemy assaults and slow heavies (are there still slow heavies?) or cap the base, whichever you prefer. Either way, by paying a modicum of respect to defending your base, you'll have won the match long before the last enemy is dead.
Base rushing cannot succeed against an enemy that doesn't base rush as well.
But, as I said: PUG life. That kind of coordination in a PUG is once in a blue moon, so I share your pain. What should be the most tactical of game mode often devolves into simple base rushing because PUGs will be PUGs.

Assault mode is legit way to force 12 players down in rankings.
Fast light, cap accelerator, and watch enemy complain.

Instead, let's rush to the forum and complain that nobody plays the way I play.
Players have to own up and break the cycle... It's not like the base rush mechanic is going to self correct.
