Just a thought. Maybe just get rid of all the limiting mechs/tonnage and put R&R back in.
Give smaller groups a scale of additional c-bill reward with 2 mans being the highest.
Make ecm cost a fairly ridiculous amount until it's actually fixed on live servers.
Modules have a cost as well. (add some balance for newer players)
The rest of R&R from what I can recall in my old age actually did have some effect on loadouts and overall balance.
- The thought alone of smaller groups having the opportunity for higher gains would likely convince more of them to fill up the queue.
I'd personally like to see it so people could lose money still, but recall that's why people cried before, so maybe make it so net gain can be as low as zero for certain group ranges at least, and let the more "hardcore" large groups actually be able to lose c-bills with their op teamwork.
Let people run what they want and take the risk of lost c-bills, would have been a great option for CW, but few want to even consider that mode anymore.
Just my thought on the whole thing, I didn't think it was bad before - probably really isn't terrible now except people are forced to make choices (ooh the humanity!).

I can already envision the "evil" 12 mans having so much money that they can still use their decked-out MadCats while their original prey are so poor that they have to use SHS and Standard Internal Structure.
Also expect even more laser usage, because why flush money down the drain by using ammo-based weapons?

R&R always sounds cool because it sounds more immersive, but In practice it ends up becoming a complete mess. It isn't just the reinforcement of the laser vomit meta, it is also giving an earnings advantage to paying players (who have 30% C-Bill boosted mechs and Premium Time) to the point they can run anything without giving considertation to DHS, XL engines, or Endo/Ferro. In the mean time, the free player is losing money or breaking even on a loss and can't even fix his/her mech.
R&R was a better idea in a single player Mercenary title, but for this game, I just don't see it being a good idea. It was a train wreck once, it will always be a train wreck.

The thinking would be that if you boost smaller groups rewards so they can actually earn even on a defeat (unless maybe LRM boat with ecm), then the newer/free players would have a place to play grouped up at. They would tend to play in smaller groups anyhow.
For vets and prem time players that would take advantage of that style, well I guess at least they wouldn't be in the scary 12 mans so that's a good thing.
Just a thought though, might fit in place to feed the needs of people that don't like either of the other systems.

I'm all for R&R, however we have to get it. This title desperately needs more depth.
