I have not played much since the new forest colony map has been added, but over the last few days i have had the itch to play so i fired up the game.. And i don't know what has changed, but i just can't see well at all..

New river city, just feels darker, and the shadows really hide things.. anthing at range with all the out-cropings everything just totally blends

the old forest colony was one of the maps that i had a hard time on ebfore, but now it is even darker, even in daylight, and with all the trees, and rocks.. finding a mech unless it is right in front of me is next to impossible

caustic.. One map i really loved before, but now.. between the new colors with all those puteride bright yellows, and gasses and greens and dark rocks, and especially the new night vision which seams like Zero help at all... i am finding it very difficult.

Mining collective.. Was one of the hardest to see, next to terra, but the 3 new maps have all moved ahead with being worse.. but still, the map seams darker over all, with the lights glaring.

Crimson strait.. The sun is just completely blinding if you start in the base near the tunnel exit.. driving towards the B2-3 area, makes it very difficult to see. Its not as bad on the back side of the mountain, or near the platform area, as long as i have my back to the sun..

Frozen city.. Again, the lighting seems to have changed, the snow glare, and particles it's just about blinding. Heat vision helps, but still, no where near what it was a few months ago..

Bog.. If seams like they just added fog.. It's like im looking through clouded glass.

I have tried messing with visual graphics settings and i can't find any setting that puts them back to how they were before..

I really don't think this is my computers issues, as Maps that have not been touched at all, like Alpine, or tourmilne, and even terra (once my worst, though now i only wish i could see as easily as this one) Are the same as i remember from the last time i played in early august. So to me it has to be something in their updates..

What the heck are they doing to these maps.. I can deal with balance, Meta, game play issues.. fine.. But Not being able to see mechs, until i am right on top of them is just a game breaker..

I turn down bright and gamma to reduce glare, and everything is so dark it's very hard to see.. i turn it up to see mechs and such, and then the lighting just is so bright i get glares everywhere.

I run a nivida 550TI, with the latest drivers.. I have played with brightness and gamma, and other settings.. and i can't seam to find anything that makes it any easier to see.. I even run at lowest settings.. and still it is very difficult..

I have to ask, is there anything i can do... Or am i just totally screwed with PGI's new lighting updates.. Cause if it's the second.. sadly i just don't see myself being able to play anymore and i have really enjoyed this game over the last bunch of years.. But It's like they are just patching me outta playing with every graphic update it has gotten progressively worse..

BTW, I have 20/20 vision, but i don't see that great in low light, and glares at night are semi blinding.. aka driving at night in the rain, and halo's around lights.. But my eyes have been the same for the last bunch of years.. and early last summer i had zero of these issues, outside of forest colony, and mining collective being harder to see, but they at least were doable. These new maps, and new lighting.. it is extremely difficult to the point of game breaking. It's bad enough to get ranged and such, But to not even be-able to see the enemy? it makes it impossible to play.

Outside of playing on old maps in private matches, i am not sure what i can do.. Any thoughts on this? or ideas of a way i can actually see to play???????

A lot of people that have supported this game with hard cash are at the end of their patience, so you'll get no caustic comment from me, I'm starting to feel its the end of the line for me as well.

I have a hard time seeing also.
I purchased a 27" monitor.
Its better now but the maps you mention are still a pain in my eyes.

I have heard it is best to set Object Detail to High, Textures High and everything else to Low or Off...
Sorry if you tried that... your post is long and I may have missed a line or two.

run repair tool to be safe.Or adjust you're computer's settings for lighting.

Only thing I can suggest or...

Take a break, viewing a screen for long periods of time can damage your vision and more.

Also: Yes, lighting is more vibrant in the new maps.

But that doesn't mean it's game breaking, trust me.

Go play Halo where everyone has infinite plasma grenades, they blind the crap out of you when they explode.

I haven't been a huge fan of PGI's graphical design on newer maps like Forest Colony 2.0 (and also in the case of Forest Colony I don't like the map design either) but it's not really a huge problem when using other vision modes like heat vision or night vision.

I still wish there would be less vision obscuring factors though like less fog and a little more visibility during nighttime on maps.

I have difficulty seeing, I turned up my gamma and brightness to make things more visible in heat vision and outside heat mode I can't see squat.

So I either turn down my gamma to see a little better on Alpine which is blinding now or I just use heat vision.

There is no happy middle ground for me, and I think I have a astigmatism

I've said it before - I feel like I'm playing half my game time in heat mode. (Battlefield 4 is my other game I play a lot)

I want to see my mech p*rn!

One thing that helps is to put "Post Processing" to Medium or Low.
"Environment" to Medium or Low could help also.
Shadows On(Medium)/Off could help - i find that Shadow on Medium offers better visibility than Shadows Off - that is up to you.
Effects and Particles be more a FPS thing imho.

Also the Anti Aliasing you have chosen may affect the Visual Quality as well as your Video-Drivers Settings - try different AA Methods or disable AA either ingame or in the Video Driver.

Night Vision works on Caustic pretty well and you can see through smoke (ableit some people have "Special Gamma Settings" and can see anything everywhere - you fight quite some people with handcrafted configs to pimp the visibility of all things to their favour...).

Not to speak of "High Contrast Monitors"...

PS: Dont forget to disable/enable Cockpit Glass as it fits you - i run it disabled.

I hate that you guys are having these troubles, have you adjusted the settings on your monitor or in the computer display settings?

Here are the http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/116104-what-are-the-minimum-system-requirements/
It looks like you are at the back end of the middle of the road with that card. honestly I think that the MWO recommended hardware is rather low. I would Highly recommend spending a couple hundred bucks if possible and upgrading to an GTX 960 Ti. Just because an older card works does not mean it works well. The card you were using was great in its day but it's time to grab a better card for modern games, it will help a TON. The farther MWO grows the lest support for older generation cards there will be.

Sorry I have no other advise than that and I wish you the best of luck as a bad gaming experience is bad.

I'm waiting for the ECM nerf to go into effect before I play again. I stopped when the new River City 2.0 came out and I couldn't see anything, but they could see me.

Does this problem happen with any other games ? I only ask because it seems it might be the way your eyes are having problems with the color being used. Maybe playing with the contrast or color settings of the monitor itself could help you out. ( not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with you bear in mind. I just know that each of us sees our own version of color )

I have to agree with you though the color seems washed out as hell on Forest it always had but I don't really have that problem in any other map. Forest however I almost always end up in heat vision even when fighting in broad day light on that map.

It is damn hard to see a lot of the time

Same thing for me.

You do memorise the map over time, so you can tell which blob is a much vs bush/rock.

Same, the game is just a clouded foggy mess with crappy textures.

I miss the old closed beta graphics. Frozen city night is my favorite map and still very clear, but you don't hit it near often enough.

Edit: Frozen city, not river city

I have trouble with HPG, Forest Colony, Mordor, some parts of Mining Complex, any of those darker maps really. Blizzard time in Frozen City I can kinda work around using night vision but other than that I can't see much. So I'm not sure what to tell you, except maybe you're not the only one. I have fewer problem maps than you seem to though.

I'm actually a fan, of having some maps with lower visibility.

Why should every map be a clear day with a blue sky? Different environment, with different conditions, actually add variety to the game.

I really like the ambiance in this game. The sounds and the details. You can look all over these maps and see some really cool stuff.

But I hate this fog of war stuff. It hurts my eyes because Im always straining to see on certain maps.

I turned all my graphics down as far as I could and turned up my brightness a bit. I even went into my graphics card settings and set everything to Performance and it helped.

I wasnt going for performance though. I was just trying to see without blowing out my eyes

Don't take this wrong but when was the last time you had your eyes checked? I can get by without my glasses, but with them the definition is so much better.

Too much fog on every map or too dei shadows. I find that I'm relying so much on shooting the targeted mechanical because I can't see them otherwise. It is a fun game but deeply frustrating not being able to see properly. Hpg is awful as is the new forest, not that the old one was a wonder for visibility either. Pgi really needs to dial down the fog
