Not at all. One can reduce graphics without removing all particle effects and such.

But I'm sure most competitive players are running this game on potatoes, so are reducing graphics out of necessity, amirite

I reduce most of my settings to be able to keep a steady 60FPS+ at all times, something not easily achievable on the new maps since either them or the game has piss-poor optimization.

Ok. PGI redoes old maps added tons more detail.

Don't forget they were also able to reduce the FPS on the new maps by nearly half of what I used to get.

Old maps? 100-110fps +
New maps? 60-70 as long as there isn't too much going on.... sub 40 if I look at where the enemy lances would spawn.

Not sure why but Post processing and DoF don't work on any of the new maps. Thats a lot of "crispy" rendering as far as you can see. Not quite sure how this impacts performance if at all.

It is simple--tell people it isn't for a potato. The iron fist is strangely effective. I doubt people will not play this game because it does not work on their potato. The playerbase, as small as it is, most likely is not full of filthy casuals with 80386 computers.

F2P game bruh, not how it works and as you said, the player base is already small, PGI can't permit themselves to cut off some of that player base, they need all the players they can.

What's funny is when people like you completely misunderstand the complaints.

They game didn't look good enough because they put a muddy brown filter on EVERYTHING - they've come to their senses and removed that garbage.

People also complain that this game is poor performance wise and not optimized, which is true.

The two complaints are not mutually exclusive.

You are literally talking out of your bum bum at this point bud.

This game is F2P, it's balanced around the lowest common denominator.

Not really. I'm just saying the developer could nut up and say take or leave it. That's what Nintendo games did back in the 80s. Dracula and the Grim Reaper laughed and said, "Deal with it." Holy Diver just yawned and that red dog... it /did/ laugh.

So they can fix the low detail problem fast. It isn't like MWO is ever going to be an esport.

Or we can just play how it is. I myself? I have my detail turned down--but I'll admit, no lower than medium for much of the stuff. I like a little pretty. I'd rather it look all pretty. Except the post-processing. Yuck, I turn that off.

The new Caustic looks like runny diarrhea. I can't see anything on it.

The problem is that all of the fog and junk isn't pretty. It's f#$%ing ugly and an eyesore, in addition to inhibiting gameplay.

See Gman's post over on NGNG for more arguments: http://www.nogutsnog...g22652#msg22652

Yes. I HATE the fog. LOATHE it. I wish it would go away. I hate running heat vision all the time. I also wish they'd remove 'mechs inheriting the terrain color.

And said game developer would get a new one ripped up for not allowing their users to change graphics settings.
It's 2015 buddy, time to get in on the times.

LOL see my post higher up. Back when I was a kid my Dad's favorite expression was, "Deal with it!"

And I say the same thing to my daughter.

And the developer could tell us to deal with it, too.

(As long as the get rid of the stupid fog)

I don't think it's a big deal. Yes, the tryhards will run minimal graphics so they don't have to deal with as much smoke, or any of the particle effects, or other environmentals clouding their view. Yes, they will see me 100m further away than I see them. Yes, they will shoot through stuff at me from a cloak of invisibility that I cannot look through.

But my game is actually pretty and nice to look at. My game is fun and interesting, because I have to consider how I want to deal with the smokey caldera - risk peeking over? Edge around the sulfur geyser to get a better look but exposing myself for longer? My game is displayed in all its glory on a 9 foot wall 6 feet away from me, with loud noises and bright flashes that really do blind me and drown out other noises like TS when I get hit with autocannons. And I like it that way. All the super-comp players can use their low-spec tweaks to run the equivalent of wireframe actionbots to get their minor advantages. I don't care. It's sad, boring, and not worth it.

Of all the games in the world, if I ever try to make a name for myself in MWO, then I've lost my mind. Please send me to the psych ward. Hell, if I ever try to make a name for myself in any video game...
I'd rather keep my games fun than waste countless hours in vain attempts at fulfillment through a video game.

Turn your settings down you'll be able to see better.

Or you can continue to be forced "...to deal with whatever they think the game should look like."

Nothing has changed except people continue to get dumber as they breed. I'm talking in general--not about you.

The whole "things have changed" is so passe.

It's 2015, games are expected to release with a full library of customization graphics options. Games that do not are heavily criticized for it and this game cannot permit itself to block some players out because they cannot run the game, they need all the players they can get.

I feel sorry for you if you can't understand this, quite frankly, basic concept.

I understand it perfectly. I know why they are there. But the theme of this thread is, "Why can't I play with all the options on and still be competitive?"

The basis of my entire argument is supportive of the OP and nothing more. I understand what you are saying and why games do it and PC games are expected to have these choices.

I want MWO to look pretty and not have to feel like a gimp with my settings all the way up.

What you don't understand is developers can still tell people, "tough ****."

as the owner of a toaster that gets 24 frames on average (caps at 30, dips to 4 at times) I'm a bit frightened at the idea of locking the graphic specs to high.

At the same, I understand that if I DID have a good rig, I WOULD want the pretty graphics, and would be a bit dismayed that by having the best I'm also more prone to foes.

I suggest we remove all previous player buckets: PSR, Tonnage, faction, ect, and have just two game modes: Toaster (players limited to all Low settings) and Shiny (all else.) :P

In the mean time, I still don't understand why someone is upset that others would take different steps to more consistently secure victory: It's a sign of autism to insist someone else is playing with their toys "the wrong way"

I do, but it's a terrible business choice and players can easily tear the devs a new one for it.

Object detail should always be maxed because it stops pop-in and increases LoD. Rest is up to you. Textures are good at high or else it looks like garbage.
