None of this is needed with the state this game is in. Fix the things that need fixing...NOT adding cosmetic BS that does nothing for gameplay.

The art department is totally separate from the Gameplay/ Game-engine developement department.

Let the artists Art and the programmers program.

Literally all they have to do is port over the skyrim "Create a Character" and it would be an instant 10/10

Yeah because game companies are socialist communes where that sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME.

Should be of the utmost importance and priority shouldn't it?

I honestly can't work out why you guys are so keen to have a customisable pilot model.

I mean, you get to see it for 3 seconds at the beginning of match. It performs the set animation every time, and then it's gone for the rest of the match.

Do you really want the 3D modellers and texture artists working on this instead of new maps, enabling camos for all the Hero Mechs that have no camo options, addressing the embarrassing 'no signal' cockpit monitors, etc?

No, we do not need a customizable pilot. The pilot is nothing in the computer game versions of MechWarrior. Only the 'Mech matters.

And that's the way it should stay.

Eve only survives today because of its character creation addition.

So wrong it's not even funny. EVE is and always has been a spaceship game. That's why Walking in Stations failed so miserably. I can't remember the last time I looked at a character model in that game, and I've been playing regularly since 2008.

It's pretty hard to fail at something that was never actually put into the game. Maybe if they had put in the time and effort they wasted on the World of Darkness MMO that never say daylight (pun not intended) it might have actually worked out. As it stands anybody who cared about it doesn't care about it anymore.

On that note, this thread is a nice little list of things that would be neat to have in-game. Thing is it takes time and money to pay people to do these things. That time and money would be better spent adding new content and rebalancing the game. You're not going to encourage old and new players alike to flock to the game with pilot customization. Customizing something inconsequential to gameplay is garnish on the side of the greater meal. Cook the meal, worry about garnish later.

That said, I want to make it clear that I don't have a problem with reworking the pilot model. The pilot model we have now looks blurry and pixelated. I certainly won't miss it when they replace it.

Whoa whoa whoa. Let's slow down here.

1. You RARELY see your pilot model outside of the startup sequence (or if you're bad and overheat and the pilot has to start the mech back up =D) and I'm not sure if the pilot even HAS a head.

2. Customization? I mean...I guess male/female and skin color (3-6 basic shades?) Caucasian/African/Oriental/Hispanic...what am I missing? I don't think beyond a single skin color per background is necessary. I mean, sorry it doesn't exactly match you, but again you will RARELY see your damn pilot.

3. Clothes - Let's be happy with what we get, better than the default at least.

4. As for the portraits, I like it in a sense. Normally you would only see these in a campaign style game and only other's portraits (like the academy one). However, having this for exactly that, when a campaign/coop missions come out for MWO, would be neat. Having the customized pilot portraits pop up when someone is using ingame voice (small icon or something on the left side of your HUD maybe?) would be neat to have along with their overall general mech status (like the colored bars from MW4) while in range with them. Beyond that I don't see much use for a pilot portrait in pvp.

Well, the current pilot model plays in the same category as the 'no signal' monitors here. It doesn't really affect gameplay, but it still should be improved. And while they are at it, they can do it right instead of just patching it up.

Customize pilot model, face + outfit (add helmet option in case people dislike the art style for the faces).
Have portrait appear when doing coms
Have portrait appear in forums

I'd love to see that implemented :)

Not really. I see the pilot model for 3 seconds per match. The monitors however are there throughout the match, constantly reminding me of a cool feature that became a placeholder.

TBH, if I were the devs, I'd be embarrassed to have incomplete stuff like that still visible after 4 years. It suggests a lack of pride in workmanship. If this were my product, I'd be working evenings free of charge to put something more immersive on those monitors, or just remove them completely. At the end of the day, the cockpits are just static overlays.

The pilot model by contrast isn't incomplete or broken, it's just a bit sub-optimal.
