I think from the update notes it is: Toggle outlines around 'Mechs so they're easier to see.
Why can't we have access to this in game? If I remember from the cartoon this was a thing in game. It would help avoid the need to squint so much at the screen.

Look, we can't make it TOO easy to track an enemy unit.

It should perhapse be available as a 6 milion c-bill mech module.
Also, it should be available to the clans only until the timeline moves up to where IS has clan tech. (speaking from a Lore-based point of view, not a clan warrior point of view)

Could not resist...
Also, MW2 had the EI if you wish to see how it was done in there.

It would make more sense to merge it with an existing mech module, namely the Advanced Zoom (because it is currently the most worthless). It could become "Advanced Optics" module, which could give not only advanced zoom, but some kind of overlay in addition

As for the low details/ gamma changes...personaly I consider it kinda of cheating. It gives people a benefit from doing so, on the other hand, people with low hardware don't have much of a choice there.
So you kinda have to live with it.

Maybe once the re-balance happens, only light mechs considered info warfare mechs could have the ability to use Enhanced Imaging. That way (in theory) the vision would be used more for scouting the condition of enemy hitboxes. Since those lights tend not to cause much damage, it wouldn't be too OP.
Then again, if we were still worried about an info light mounting 2 ERLLasers and using it for sniping, we could always make it so that weapons couldn't be fired while in Enhanced Imaging or add a purposeful "lag" to visuals when EI was active (due to possibly the high computing power causing visual de-sync). it might help squarely put it into a scouting type of system.
It would be the ONLY way I would want to see this vision mode utilized.
