Does anyone miss the original Forest Colony or the snow version?
While the new forest colony is, im my opinion, a rather good map, i find myself missing the original.
It is small and cramped and brawl-y, and honestly, felt quite different because of it's smaller size. and i actually quite miss it.

Would you guys be interested in seeing the original forest colony return?of course as a separate map on the roster from new Forest Colony and updated with destructibles and variable time? maybe calling it "Smallest Colony" ? :P

I do sometimes.

Despite being a bit smaller, combat had the chance to be much more varied as far as where people could fight on it with the older map.

As well as having multiple versions with different map geometry blocking the cave pass or not, it just seemed alot more interesting how things played out.

The new map, is huge, sure, but only the same 10% of the map actually gets used, which is usually that tiny spot around H8/9 by those 2 hills and 1 giant tree, everything else gets completely ignored.

The new version would benefit from randomised team spawn locations in DM, or something to mix up the hot zones, that's for sure.

I don't really miss it, but then again, it wasn't normally a map I did great on anyway. The only real appeal it ever had was that it was the original MWO map.

I dont think PGI needs to bring back the old Forest Colony in the public queues, but I think they should keep the old maps selectable in the private lobby. That would seem ok.

Still hate the old Forest Colony. The fog was so maddeningly thick, and some geniuses always holed up near the cave entrance and get wiped out.

As much as I enjoy the reworked maps, River City and Forest Colony really feel like new maps rather than retouched old ones. I kind of wish PGI had left the originals in the rotation and just added in the reworked ones for a bit extra variety. We basically lost four maps and gained two.

I leave Caustic out of all that because it didn't change much. It just got craggier.

Would be nice to get a snow version of the new one with some crazy drifts, even a snowed up River City with the river being frozen over and some various blockages.

Also would be nice to get a non-snow version of Frozen.

I hate the old Forest Colony, but I don't particularly enjoy the new Forest Colony. It turned out exactly as I imagined it would, after seeing what they did with River City.

They made both maps 4 times bigger, and yet we're still almost always fighting over a tiny little portion of the maps. No one has ever crossed the F-line on new Forest Colony, it's completely uncharted territory. The D-line is basically just a legend, I'm not sure it actually exists.

"Let's flank along the northern shore" said no one ever on new Forest Colony.

But the old Forest Colony was probably my least favourite map for 12 v 12. If they bring it back for 4v4, I'm ok with it.

I actually had a guy that wanted to flank the northern shore once, problem was he didn't take into account the rest of his lance was 3 dires.

I kind of blame this on the fact that these maps are remakes and not completely new maps. These maps are a lot bigger and have a lot more added terrain...

BUT, they still have the same landmarks as the old maps. This means when you drop in say the PUG queue (where communication is at a minimum anyway), people are going to group up and when they do, they are going to gravitate to the area of the map they are most familiar with. This means the new Forest Colony is going to see a fight around the "arch" just like the old map, and on the new River City, people will tend to gravitate towards the Citadel.

Still, part of me wonders if a lot of the concentrated use of a map is just due to very little communication and a lack of trust in teammates to begin with (at least in solo queue). People need to organize, and often don't, so they all tend to come together anyway. On top of that, even if some rando person did try to coordinate a flank, he has to trust people will follow him (telling a lance to flank and having only one guy actually follow you :/ ), and that he will lead the flank is a good direction. If caught in a Flank, you are picked off because you are outnumbered, and then the enemy outnumbers the rest of your team making an easy victory.

I guess that is the funny thing about wanting bigger map sizes anyway. we want bigger maps, but the social norms of the teams just tends to bring everyone together within a small area anyway.

The new forest colony map is nearly as bad as Viridian Bog, I hope those god forsaken forests get brunt down. +1 to bringing back the old forest colony back, minus the invulnerable trees. My win rate on the new forest is a bit higher, but it's a lot less fun to play imo.

This is the Original Forest Colony, and yes I want it back. It has always been the best MWO map for realistically portraying distance and thereby gives the mechs a true sense of Scale. Therefore we need it. It's completely different from the green fog Forest Colony which obscured the mechs and turned them into tiny robots. Forest Colony Snow has no haze at all so not very good at creating the feel of great distances.

Forest Colony-original alpha version is the best of any MWO map for realistic distance portrayal.

Here you go......

For 12 v 12 matches....hell no! I hated the old Forest Colony once they moved from 8 v 8!

Now, reintroducing it for 4 v 4 matches? That's golden right there.

the problem isnt the maps its the gamemodes.

when winning is entirely based on killing the enemy team and nothing else, of course games are going to revolve around deathballing and fighting on the same part of the map every game.

what we need is a ticket based gamemode where killing the enemy team doesnt matter as much and instead you have to fight over objectives in different areas of the map. This type of game needing a ticket based gamemode is something MWLL figured out. I wish MWO would figure it out too.

a ticket based gamemode would help break up deathballing by removing the excessive penalty of permadeath and the spread out objectives would make sure that fighting occurred on different parts of the map.

I prefer the new to the old. I find matches on the old map turn out rather the same but that was perhaps it had been around for sometime. The new map is good in my opinion. I feel more like fighting in a forest. Scenery is great for tourists too.

If they put in old forest colony it better be the real old forest colony where the sun was out and the map looked beautiful, not the greyed out **** we've been forced to live with for the last three years, but to be honest, I despise the old small maps. To me the new maps have all been great improvements, even if some reviews have been mixed.

Lord, this game needs some objective based game modes. CW is sort of a pale imitation of that, I guess. I tend to prefer conquest the most as that game mode at least forces movement and the combat tends to be more exciting because, unlike the other game modes, you often have to think on your feet during engagements instead of autopiloting to the same areas of the map.

Thats the fault of the players, not the map. Same thing happened in Alpine, Terra Therma. People seem to want to go to the same spot on the map every. single. game. Makes me wonder if I would enjoy playing mwo online with bots instead of players, maybe it would be more fun.
