I took this test a while back, got the Panther.
That's fine by me, I like 'em. I actually geeked out pretty hard when I heard they would be in the game. I'll post again if I decide to take the plunge with y'all.

Fellow pilots, please welcome the one and only Amaranth Panther to the field.
Couldn't help it

The first few games will be rough, before I grind that XL Engine.

Yass! This guy gets it!

Thanks for the invite, got it.
Gameplan:
Gonna buy the 8Z, 9R, 10K, in that order, to reduce weapon/equipment buying costs.
The 8Z comes with an LL. I was able to purchase the 8Z, upgrade the DHS and endo, and purchase 2 more LL and 4 DHS with the cadet cash.
I ran it with the STD140 for the first 4 matches, until I had enough for the XL235 and Ferro. Upgraded to that, and started working on purchasing and kitting out the 9R. That standard engine saved my bacon in the first match, and kept me alive long enough to get my first kill

I also sold the STD140, all the SHS, and some of the JJs (I honestly won't be using them, I know the exact sniper builds I want). I'm going to do the same for the 9R. I kept the SRM4s and ammo for now. No telling if I'll need them on a bigger mech later in the challenge

The plan is to push the 3LL build and engine to the 9R when it's up and running, and push the PPC to the 10K for a double PPC build. The 8Z will get 2LPL once the upgrades on the 9R and 10K are paid for.
The XL235 was picked because it's a nice "Goldilocks" size that I can run on any of the sniper builds I have planned. I'll get more engines later, when I think I've got enough to cover it. An XL 250 would be ideal for the 2LPL 8Z, the 10K will keep the XL235 in its 2PPC build with 2 external DHS, and the 9R can take either another XL235, or an XL225, depending on how I want to play it.
Why get the extra engines? Because if I kit out all 3, when I move on to chassis #2, I can run them all in a CW/FP deck if I get at least a 55-ton mech to get the tonnage up to 160. An Atlas or Banshee would run the total up to an almost-respectable 200 ton deck. No, it's not the most high-performance deck, and it leaves a lot of tonnage on the table, but it's mechbays, right?

Anyway, that's thinking as far ahead as I care to at the moment. It does provide a teaser for me though, that I'll probably want to bank some cash for the next chassis in line, too. My plan is to run only mechs I've bought, which I can do because I'm starting with a light.
Edit, update:
PNT-9R is purchased, completely upgraded, and I've moved the 3LL and XL235 over to it. 627,524 c-bills in the bank.
PNT-8Z is most of the way through basics now, with only the twist and arms skills to finish.
Because the 9R is the logical home for the 3LL build (that heatgen quirk), I'll make it my primary grinder for awhile. Once the 10K is purchased, upgraded and has its 2nd PPC, I'll circle back to get the 2 LPL for the 8Z. Unless, that is, I'm seized by a purely impulsive need to run the 2LPL build sooner

Onward to the 10K!
Final update tonight:
16 matches total so far. 10K is purchased and upgraded, and has both PPCs and its 2 externally-mounted DHS. The fact that it came with Endo to start helped some. So did selling the STD140 and the SHS, along with the 2 redundant JJs. I kept the CASE, and the SRMs and ammo again. So the 10K is ready to go, whenever I decide to move the XL235 over. My Panthers are going to be sharing that engine for a little while, I think. I've got
9R has all but the twist and arm skills done.
I'm pretty pleased with the first night. Everything's ready to grind, just in time for the "1st Day" premium time to run out.

Please don't shoot me Bishop

ran my all my panthers this color since day one the resistance pack hit. IIRC it took me longer to find that color then it did to kit out one for the first match

I think I ran mine in Amaranth, with a secondary of Pigment (they go surprisingly well together). I don't remember what the tertiary color was.

Edit: I remembered. It was Primary Amaranth, Secondary Hellblau, Tertiary Obsidian Black. I ran it with Pigment on other occasions though.

If I win a 500MC gift code on the forums, posting from my primary account, may I use that code on my What Mech alt account?
I'm not spending money, but technically speaking the alt didn't win it either.
Amaranth Panther could use mechbays after all, or a pure vanity QoL item--Amaranth Paint

I see no problem with this since you did not spend money on the MC. I am going to rule it ok.

My opinion is that if you're really unhappy with the Victor selection, take the quiz again and try for something different. I did that with Centurions, which I'd mastered on my primary account, and I got Centurions again (thus my alt account name). At that point, I figured it was fate, so I went ahead and played them and had a lot of fun the second time around. Got Victors for my second mastery choice and also enjoyed them, but not sure if I would've stuck with it if I'd also mastered them on my prime acct.

I'm reluctant to take them out right now on my primary account, because TTK feels low for them at the moment (not in a good way).
I can like the mech, and not enjoy playing it right now, right?

i have done the victors here on the poor boy system. basically they are all super stock. heck even kept the gauss in the 9k. have a 3 victor 1 locust CW drop deck right now. it an't great but can be fun if you know when to let your inner baserker loose. BTW i do get my share of comments with a handle hating victors and a 3 vtr drop deck.
so come on in and give it a try. we have cookies, well some times, well we are mostly broke, so if you bring cookies, we will have cookies...

nice personal challenge this weekend into next week. 150MC on the line and a day of PT
https://mwomercs.com/tournaments?t=201604alpha
remember since CW is not reflected in your stats, it is OK to take trial mechs in your drop deck. Try to use your challenge mechs though.
get out there and earn those LP for free mechbays while we still can!!

It was and is a great idea, Ed.
For something to catch on, it needs a good focal concept, a clear picture. You nailed that. The unit was almost an afterthought, from what I could tell, but it serves its purpose well.
Ioopala and 3x have enough credibility that they can keep the idea moving.
GG Ed. Hope you're well, and on the upswing too.

Hey folks!
Just finished my cadet rounds, which means I can post outside of "New Player Help," and I'm sporting my shiny new "Knight Errant" title

After my first 25 matches, I've got 3 fully-upgraded Panthers. I've got 1 XL235 engine to share between them, 3,705,655 c-bills in the bank, and 1901 GXP.
9R has 13 matches, 532 unassigned XP and only needs the Arm Reflex skill to complete basics.
8Z has 11 matches, needs the twist and arm skills, and has 1476 unassigned XP.
10K has 1 match, 700 XP, and no skill unlocks.
I'm pretty happy with my progress

I've got limited gaming time this weekend, so we'll see how much I'm able to make of the challenge weekend.
Glad to be part of the fun with y'all. Thanks for having me.
OH! I almost forgot. I won a 500 MC gift code. The responsible thing to do would have been to save it for mechbays. The fun thing to do was to purchase my namesake color, and paint all my Panthers Amaranth. Fun won
