I think the main draw should be on piloting a BattleMech.

It'd be cool if they included other vehicles as support and/or fodder to make battles more intense and lively, but I don't think people should get to operate them.

Might be nice later on to bring them in as a purchased item (that you lose if it dies) as a c-bill sink if that is required.
Personally I would rather be able to buy an Urbie as a pet...

NPCs seem to be a nice compromise.

I find the thought of combined arms would be an interesting add-on. Basics vehicles and VTOLs at least. I think things like Aerospace and high speed aircraft wouldn't fit well into the game mechanics. Other then having them be consumables to call in airstrikes.

Truth be told, just once I'd like to roll onto the battlefield in a Demolisher.

My favorite mission in MW2 Mercs was when you were captured by the Clans and had to escape in a 25ton Harasser.

I want to go 200kph and slam 12 SRMs into the back of an Atlas and then run away.

I voted yes BUT only as part of the PvE content to be added later, NOT for PvP.

One of the IS responses to the Clan Star, was to create mixed use Lances of 4 mechs, and 2 tanks/craft. There are also Aerospace lances with two Aero space fighters attached to them. I think both could enhance game play.

As the game expands and grows in resources they should make this a payable option. It would effect Battle/Combat Value, which can make it easier to balance out teams, or pair up teams of comparable CV in Auto-Match (or whatever equivalent MWO has). You pay more money- bring your own vee or Battle Armor Squad or Aerospace. Pay more- get more. Limit say one vee per player, and you pay more to customize (or grind more) just like everyone else. For me that would mean a chance to test out my MRM carrier (C-3 Linked and can fire 160 (!) MRMs at a time- the only other vee I heard of being so nasty was a VTOL that specialized in armor piercing AC-2. )

nope, absolutely not.

as stated earlier, this is mechwarrior online, i want to pilot a mech and engage in mech battles. so if we add vtols and stuff, you also have to add arties, which are very often present in battletech engagements, and then again you have a game, where someone without even beeing close to you can shoot you down, maybe even one-shoot you...

i really like it, that once for a change a game that is called mechwarrior is centered around mechs and not something else, that might ruin your battle experience with your mech.

besides, as mentioned earlier as well, if you want combined combat, get mechwarrior living legends. i like it a lot, but at that game as well, i could live very well without tanks, vtols and air/space fighters.

Nothing wrong with including the tanks, and other vehicles of the battletech universe. I would love the option to be able to pilot a heavy tank.

What is this nonsense?

First of all an artie will not 1 shot kill a Mech because the Mech is a moving target and artie find it very hard to hit such. Even against relatively slow targets artillery must attack in groups, hoping the collateral overlaps so that targets missed can be hit.

Anyways players will enjoy decking out vees just like Mechs. And consider Battlefield 1942 etc. The ability to pilot different units added too, rather then detracting from FPS. Really it is up to the developers, who have limited resources now, but they will likely consider it as the game expands, which it will likely do for a single particular reason which many yet do not realize but which is related to the Halo franchise.

I think other combat vehicles should be added for use by the players, and not as pets or as NPCs.

Not as playable units.. and when I say "NPC's as cannon fodder".. well maybe they won't be destructible.. what I'd like to see is some dynamic environments with aerospace and shuttles flying around randomly to add atmosphere.. and other things like that in the game.. like they sometimes have birds and stuff flying around.. you can't shoot them.. can't interact with them.. but they really add to the immersion and atmosphere of the map.

I really like the idea of introducing non-'mech elements into the game in patches of additional content. Also that non-'mech units should be primarily npc's or commander summoned independent units. Armor, infantry, VTOLs, and later battle armored infantry are major facets of the Mechwarrior Universe and it would be incredible if they can be part of the game.

Well you see the game is called:

Mechwarrior:Online

not

Battletech Combined Arms: Online

Sure, but I suspect many of us like some realism in our fiction. I have a hard time believing that Mechs are the only thing on the battlefield. Aircraft carriers and battleships aren't the only warships on the ocean. I don't want to drive a tank, but there have to be second class planets worth invading that field tanks, battle suit infantry, GEVs (no Ogres please...))

Battletech has had a rich history of mixed units... not to mention elementals.

The main Ground units that actually posed a threat to a mech even in MW:LL were the one's that were in fact designed to kill mechs, such as the Demolisher(inner sphere tank), Long tom (IS artilary), Morrigu(clan tank), and Huit(clan laser battery). all of which from what little I do know of the battle tech series, were not implemented until much after the clan wars, or at the very least during the clan wars. These tanks were of course designed for destroying mechs, so they would bring weapons such as 2 AC/20's to the field (demolisher) with a huge amount of armor that could tare even an atlas down to size with enough direct hits. The rest of the vehicles were essentially, at best, used for harassment, support, anti vehicle support, and scouting.
