Well mods are of no concern. Helios Framework is.

Steam doesn't make mods happen for all games, the game itself has to be made ready for modding to happen.

MWO doesn't really set itself up for modding at all, so we aren't going to see a workshop for it.

This isn't Skyrim. Imagine if you had a MWO Creation kit. The amount of cheaters and complaining that would happen. It would be chaos. Think there is alot of complaining now? If PGI made it to where you could mod on this game, people would cry.

You first need to understand that multiplayer online games like MWO aren't modded the same way Skyrim is, they are more like how WoW is modded: custom UI's and sound packs would be the logical extent of any possible modding.

My fire starter will have 100 tons of armor per part. Legs? 200 armor. Arms? 200 armor. Head and ct? 200 armor. And so on. My king crab will have the speed of the locust with ecm and those AC 20s will have no heat My catapult will have 30 damage per lrm and travel speed that of guass with instant lock and no target loss from radar derp. Ecm shall stop all srm/ssrm and lrm locks with 200m range.

How are you going to make your mechs into Gods of Op-ness TM once the steam workshop and nexus mods become available?

They won't be allowed. It's that simple.

This may be one of the least informed OP's I've seen on this forum.

And thats really saying something.

It was obviously making fun of the fact there are no threads about modding or abusing steam's workshop once the game goes to steam in the next three years or so. Pgi has failed to make their own "mods" for the game so far. No custom sound packs, no custom skins except whatever camo they make which they haven't made a new camo in a long time, or decals to put on your mechs.

I'm sure people will crack the game open and play around with the content.

But compiling your mod and playing it live will be far more difficult to accomplish. You are more likely to find people grabbing the 'Mech models and textures and porting them into vanilla CryEngine editors to do whatever with...something that already happens now. Support for Steam Workshop is likely to be non-existent.

Yeah I agree that pgi won't allow users ever change the core of the game because of the night mare it would create. It's a shame they won't allow users to create and submit small things that they could approve of and add to the game to be sold in the store for small amounts of mc around 250-500 range to increase micro-transactions and profitability. Some thing as simple as a color change for lasers that is client side only. Only the person using the "mod" or what ever you call it would see. Everyone else sees the same normal laser color. Ignoring one of steam's biggest draws is a really bad thing. I know some people who buy and play games there solely because they know it can be modded and expanded upon later to increase the play ability and longevity of games.

As for extracting and using the mechs outside of the game there is the long forum post in user content on how to do it. i've tried and failedto do it with the freeware I have. It makes me miss having the full access to 3ds max.

I...what?

No seriously... wut?

Just because the game is going to steam, doesn't mean that PGI will enable workshop support, or mod support. So, what the hell are you even on about?

A lot of people can't seem to get that it is making fun of what crazy things people would do with their mechs IF, which really in this case means NEVER, should pgi allow us to use the workshop or mods for the game. People are so worried about how the game will crash and burn from bad steam reviews and after all those sudden influx players leave from the horrible npe pgi will turn off the servers. The rest of us who have been here before steam will probably keep playing the game after steam.

MWO can't really crash any harder than we're already seeing. Steam may help. It can't hurt.

That's not how it works... -_-

Steam Workshop is a distribution service as far as I know, not some magic tool that allows you to mod any file you want from a game. It'll be no different to how it is now.

lolololololol

steam is third party multi-layered DRM, with anti-cheat auto-ban tools, and pages of "early access" games to sift through. It couldn't be further from just being a distribution service.

i say bring on steam AND mod tools, then watch valve's anti-cheat software cause mass ban's :D

MWO will fit right in with the early access flame wars.
