And that is the idea behind a change like this. Desyncing the arms to torso weapons.

This is used in high tier play quite a bit with good players. Toggling on arm lock, even with lower arm actuator removed clan mechs DOES focus the damage more then if you don't do it.

This will affect how builds are made, and in all honesty, I'm 50/50 on it, as it will more just migrate the meta then actually affect pin point loadouts (the top meta will just shift to those with large amounts of torso arm points.)

What it WILL affect heavily, is Asymetrical "dead side" builds. as if this change goes through, you would no longer be able to gauss / PPC off of a dead side timberwolf.

I honestly dont think its gonna matter tho...

I use it maybe 3 times a night over the course of 20 matches. That is of little to no effect....Its best when im brawling and i need the quick convergence and how often does a match end up as a brawl?

But honestly if they remove it i wouldnt notice at all. I dont need the crutch, but since its there and others use it why gimp myself?

I was running my victors over the weekend and was quite pleased with their performance. My DS has a Gauss + 2xMLs + SRM6 (could be 4). It did very well.

Three reason off the top of my head: A) the introduction of arm-lock spawned multiple nerfs, a roll back would then allow for introduction of multiple buffs. B ) It increases TTK significantly as a mech in motion is able to deal less damage. If you are turning, moving perpendicular or parallel to your opponent is is incredibly difficult to strike an alpha with both the torso and arm mounted weapons. C) It creates differences between mech chassis, so a mech with a ballistic and an energy on each arm is radically different to a mech with a ballistic on the torso and an energy on the arm, allowing him to sell more mechs.

Your first point is interesting and I did not know that. As for your points B ) and C) the change doesn't affect the current DPS kings (ie ballistic users). The single mech that most dramatically changed the TTK of this game is the Dire Whale. Since it lacks lower arm actuators, it will still be slinging 4 UAC 10s or 6 UAC 5s with about as much convergence as before, perhaps slightly less accounting for up and down motion of the arms. Same story is true of the KGC (all ballistics in arms) and MAL (all in torso).

As for laser vomit mechs that mount weapons in the arms it would have the affect you described - moving mechs tend to deal less damage. So it would affect laser vomiters more than I thought, you have a point.

I dunno, maybe this change makes some sense.

Water Bear, I covered how to deal with the mechs without lower arm actuators on my 1st post.

Zeves, removing arm-lock and reverting the nerfs that it spawned, such as the JJ nerf would shake the game and the way its played up far more than you give it credit for. It would go a long way to returning gameplay back to the tactical movement of the Beta era and away from the current peek shoot camp fest we have now.

I've always played with my arms locked. I press shift it I need to aim my arms up or down or further to the right or left.

Torso twisting feels faster when the arms are unlocked so I usually leave them unlocked, even on mechs without arm weapons.

I also think moving the Cheetah's torso mounted weapons to the arms would balance it.

I can not play this game without arm lock on. I use a joystick with twist for Y axis turning. It is far too unstable with the arm lock off. The only time I turn arm lock off is when I'm shooting uphill beyond my torso pitch limit. (UAVs, etc.) Since I do not use it often, I would be ok with the arm lock on mode being brought online at the normal speed of arm movement, not the instantaneous "armlock on" we have now. It seems only logical after all. Really playing with a joystick vice the mouse is handicap enough as it is.
