There are probably a few gigs of threads on this subject already made by people who have been involved in this game for a lot longer than I have been, but I feel like I should say something on the topic.

Item Health
Given the clans warrior mentality according to lore and that their weapons and equipment are more powerful, more compact and lighter it would be easier to damage than the older, cruder and bulkier IS counter parts.

Information Warfare
The Inner sphere is loathe to lose mechs, or any tech for that matter, thus would have more of a vested interest in using anything that puts their extremely hard to replace weapons of war at risk where as the clans often meet in battle in almost arena-like ways. Thus, I think IS mechs should have a better Information warfare system than the clans are

LRMs
Give the IS mechs the ability to set their LRMs to one of two modes. Direct fire and Indirect fire. Direct fire would have a flat flight plan and would allow LRM mechs to be useful in areas with a lot of overhangs while Indirect fire would have a high arch and would be useful when a mech is working as a spotter. However, this setting should be set in the mechlab and not be changeable in the field.

Clans would work in a Direct fire method, again owing to their warrior/honorable combat mentality

I don't think lore supports the fragile weapon hypothesis and the Clans certainly had better IW tech. PGI has axed the alternative ammo idea for PBX so I think the LRM thing is a non-starter as well....

All the upset about ECM making LRMs useless could be sorted if you could easily fire LRMs directly at a mech you can visibly see. Set the missile's trajectory upon firing, call it "dumbfire", remove course correction.

Maybe just make it so ECM doesn't prevent/slow/whatever you from getting a missile lock on mechs you can visibly see from any range.

ECM is meant to be electronic counter measures, not counter-the-entire-visible-spectrum too. It should stop you from being able to share your targeting info with friends by messing with communications, not be a magic bubble.

Game engine limitations though?
