I'm not too certain how you came to the conclusion that the long range firepower of the atlas being better at stock configurations here. The base model of the atlas carries a single LRM-20 as its one and ONLY long range weapon. The man up there put up a pair of LRM-15s, how in the world is that worse than a single LRM-20 launcher? Unless its only got 1 ton of ammo the LRM-15s can rain much better support fire.

However, the build by the OP is odd considering you're sacrificing medium range engagement power for close range punch on a chassis that doesn't have as much armor as the atlas. You're relying on the fact that yes you travel at 64 kph, but you gotta take note the fact that the stalker looks just as fat, if not fatter than an atlas. Hitting a 64 kph brick is much easier than hitting a 64 kph hunchback i'd imagine :)

I believe the original mech posted had dual LRM10s. This was upgraded once the list of available equipment was posted.

As for the stalker in question... eh. I'd rather keep the large lasers then gain 10LRMs, and I'm not sold on the SSRMs.

My personal Stalker build follows. Its my 'on the cheap' idea. No engine changes, no armor or structure changes, just weapons. Obviously, I'd probably switch to Ferro armor and max out protection, and make numerous other changes... but its the starting point.

Stalker STK-1R3

LRM15 (2 Count) (Torso)
LRM10 (2 Count) (Arms)
Medium Pulse Lasers (4 Count) (Arms)
Medium Pulse Lasers (2 Count) (Torso)
LRM Ammo (7 tons) (840 Rounds) (16.8 Shots)
Double Heat Sinks (11 Count)

The LRMs are heat stable, The mediums are pretty close to heat stable. And it keeps with the Stalker's image - A massive Assault mech, slowly stomping accross the battlefield, spewing missiles. And just when someone gets in close, and thinks he's safe...

Well, you know how the story ends.

A build like that needs an artemis 4, mabye lose a laser to free up the tonnage for it. Although not a fan of lumbering around that slow myself, it definatley hurts long range.

I have to agree with this and I have to wonder if the OP is friends with the guy who came up with the "Speedy" Atlas build that was all engine with almost no weapons.

Here's something I came up with for the stalker based on its known weapon hard points (and based on what we know is in the game).

255 Engine (3/5 movement)
16.5 tons of armor (264)

4x SRM 6
4x Medium Laser
2x PPC

18 DHS
AMS
2 tons of SRM 6 ammunition
51 max Heat/ 36 Dissipation

With this build you're looking at engaging other Assaults and making sure lights don't even think about coming remotely close. If you fire everything you're looking at an 88 damage Alpha Strike. The PPC are your only long ranged weapon and should only be used at range or to generate a massive Alpha. If you do not fire the PPC at close range you will stay quite cool but against a tough opponent you will probably need to fire one or two well timed PPC shots before they reach minimum range. AMS will help mitigate incoming LRM fire while you get in range to fire your short range weapons. Your main weakness is the 20 damage at ranges beyond 270 meters but you can probably blow off someone's limb with a single volley if you catch them at 200 meters.

Or....

you could go with:

4x Large Laser
4x SRM 6
2x Small Laser

18 DHS
AMS
4 tons of SRM 6 ammunition
53 Max Heat/ 36 Dissipation

If you cycle your weapons based on range you should be fine for your heat. Use the LL for long range and the small lasers and missiles for close range. At 100m you would still have an 80 damage Alpha strike but you would now have 32 damage at range (450m maximum). Within 90m or less you would still have an 86 damage Alpha strike.

I'll be seeing about switching the lrm-15's to 2x20 or 4x10, and i'll see about fitting ER large lasers and some pulse lasers, dropping the srm's for heatsinks. maybe ppc's if i can fit them, maybe drop some armor too. throw in some ECM package and do something about the speed and now you have a very nasty support mech that doesnt take **** from lights or mediums, while being able to make those atlas wish they brought an umbrella.

if I can I'll switch my lrm payload for inferno warheads so even if they have an anti missile system they'll get covered in the goop, and then I can light them up with the lasers

probably wont be possible but a pyro can dream ;_;
