I mean....just look at them. They have so much personality.

[awesome sweetness]

Here's my favorite. Tiny but really looks like it can jump and punk around like you wouldn't believe.

Doenst it has to do with legal reasons? (That it smoother then more blocky)

On BT forums there was about the same thread discussing about this.

Not all of them no. The original source of the Marauder design was much sleeker still. Its more so that they just had to look 'different enough' from their sources to avoid legal issues.

there are a lot of subtle differences done for exactly that reason. The blockiness though, I don't see as the original Macross destroids were smoother and more rounded than the TRO versions... but as I pointed out to Agent 0 Fortune on a different topic, those were meant to have a drafting table look, not taken to be photo realistic representations. Most of the canon art leaned toward softer/smoother contours

Would be nice to have some sort of "grimy" overlay to customize mechs.
Let us decide if we want our mechs new or not!

To be honest, for me the 3 origins redesigns are amongst the best concept arts MWO has ever had. The real question is whether the 3D team can transform these beauties into good models.

They do.

If you want new, shiny and soulless, (aka the Glocks or other Tactical Tupperware of the Btech world) you become a Clanner.

If you value character, history, luster, (like a nice 1873 Colt Peacemaker or S&W #3 Russian), you drive an IS Mech.

See, easy peasy! ;)

Best Comparison of IS V Clan LOL

Well, we already had a bit of a peek at the Marauder on instagram.

it looks pretty good (even if i'm not a fan of the overly open cockpit it has.)

Yeah, I wish they'd made the cockpit slope into the nose, not end and sheer downward in a flat face.

In all honesty i dislike the designs. Prefered have more blocky mechs.

It looks all they have butter cups smeared on their components.

It needs to be a paint option for shiny brand spanking new or chipped bullethole, laserburned, pothole charred look that you can turn on and off at any time after you buy a mech for c-bills or MC.

They explained this in a devlog, its not just a simple paint scheme but an underlying layer. That's why no matter what paint scheme you pick, its simply layered over the textured details. Personally I much prefer the grittier, battle worn look for IS mechs and the sleek and shiny texturing for the Clan mechs. It gives them a nice aesthetic difference and I feel lends to immersion a little more.

I'd buy an 'in the field' skin (or even better, an overlay) for a lot of my 'mechs. I like the 'used tech' look, and don't much care for shiny new 'mechs.

I could go for that, though I like both looks and would probably split the used and new looks between variants.
