Greetings.

As a veteran of all the online mech games (from Netmech through MechAssault) I would like to say that I think (IMHO) that this iteration has fantastic potential. I thought BT:3025 had potential, too...and I see some similarities to BT:3025. But one of the glaring differences I see b/w all the previous iterations and MWO is that the previous versions lacked the ability for a lot of community contribution to lore making--and we've seen some lore making already from the Devs (danke schoen!)--which leads me to my point: MWO's potential and success and reputation will be built upon community contribution.

This isn't just a shooter. This is a massive war game, set in a universe we all know and love, a simulation of our dreams housing the potential that every Grognard has ever dreamed of. We aren't limited by the edge of the table top any more, we aren't limited by the edge of a game box (the hot patch idea is brilliant in that regard) and (I think) there is potential for this F2P version to take our gaming experience even beyond F2P...perhaps a dedicated server down the road for "Champion Play"....

Just my thoughts...looking forward to the experience...and if any of you guys and gals want to sign up with a hard grinding unit or need to hire one...look us up.

I look forward to something like what MPBT 3025 tried to achieve but never could. The technical capabilities of CE3 shouldn't disappoint :)

Lads and Ladies
PGI takes this serious. With CE3, they are able to code as much high fidelity into this as possible - never seen before. With a grand, lavish picture of all those ongoing wars , this Innershere background, we'll be in a breathing, living world. Perfect background for our Mechs to prowl.

Considering how bad the lore gets after the end of the clan invasions (WoB, Dark Age... *shudders*) ret-conning based on match results would make for better fiction than what we got hahahaha.

MWO-
Mechwarrior will truly rise to a new level of gaming experience and concept.

At first I was disappointed at finding out what this next Mechwarrior game was going to be.

Then I saw what I'm starting to see.

The potential is awesome. Unless some doofus finally decides to try to do a reboot (please no! There really is no reason to, other than UN-creativity), then the Mechwarrior/ Battletech universe can simply continue to exist.

So sorry for those that might have wanted to have joined and fought ealier in the timeline. There's no reset for this game, or at least there wouldn't be if I had anything to do with it.

Us players now may have a unique opportunity to actually participate in writing the story line based on our battles and their outcomes.

I'm excited to see what will come. We could even end up with online spectators and reporters.
Wouldn't that be interesting? Only the amount of participation will tell. Hopefully it won't dwindle, but I imagine it eventually will.

I'm also hoping this inspires a new generation of battletech pod simulators.... that would interact with this online universe when there were active missions that would allow for non-registered and random participation.

Holy fiberoptics Batman! That's one super server! Or group of servers....

Absolutely, that's the lines along my thought, that with the day-to-day "real time" environment (+3050 CE) this war can go ballistic, and we shall see just how far this can go: either meta-BT or a dud, either way, I'm eager to try it out and start mercing my way and making the most of it.

The on-line spectator, report, remote pods for random participation...live VIDEO FEEDS of "red zone" battles!!....lots of ideas there that are the kinds of ideas that will make this the greatest Mech EVAR!!!! THAT'S WHAT I'm TALKIN' ABOUT!! This game's got it all...from Grand Strategy to Spy Tactics: this will be one heck of a ride, can't wait to crank up a scout mech...

From a meta-standpoint: I thought my original post would bear repeating -- not that I thought it was such a great post, but rather because now that we are so close to going Gold, I thought we all might have a different take on things. Personally (having followed its development from the first rumors), I never thought it would see the light of day (only b/c of the disappointments of MechAssault and its ilk as well as the delay with the Harmony Gold rumors). I thought the franchise of MW was done and had given up hope. And yet...here we are, so close.

What say Ye now? Hopeful that this Grand Revival will live up to our hard corps expectations? Worried that it will devolve into just another shooter? Will only the founders be propping it up, only to watch it die a slow death?

Just curious.

Certainly nothing wrong with dreaming, but I've been through enough MMO launches to hold my breath. It'll all depend on playerbase, the income coming in and the devs.

Watch for the standard benchmarks: one month, three months, six months, one year, etc. How the game fares over time will tell what is coming down the pipe and what's possible.
