As much as I enjoy playing Frozen City, Alpine Peaks and HPG it does get very boring playing the same maps over and over again.
Personally I think the new Map Vote system has taken away a very important part of the game.
I actually enjoyed the trepidation of waiting to see what map I would get. You could almost hear the groans from the laser boats when Terra Therma appeared whereas the Dual Gauss mechs can't wait to get started.

Game mode does not concern me too much but it was nice to have the option to choose something a little different. Again this adds to the "fun" of the game.

So for me and I suspect a few others this is going to get very boring very quickly...

Welcome to the long anticipated cold maps online,...

It is with decisions like these that even I sometimes doubt whether PGI understands their game,...

We'll see how long the voting option lasts ;)

Let's hope for a hotfix today! This is seriously an amateur move that pleases only those who like cold maps and one game mode.

I'm usually quite tolerant and open to innovations, but the whole voting system is really annoying as hell. PGI, if you want to know what maps we dislike and WHY; please make an in-game poll and give us "visibility" as an option. If the voting mechanism was meant to be a way to reduce queue times, it failed because queue times feel longer than before and they weren't that bad to begin with.
This is ridiculous, it's skirmish warrior online with maps that are small, boring and generally cold (seems to be the main reason why ppl vote for them), because lasers.

This is baffling and I don't think it is an improvement. As much as I am looking forward to hanging out on the new PTS, map voting is just a bad idea. More democracy = more stupidity

If you disconnect Lord Auriel, you suffer a wait penalty.

It's now getting ridiculous. Will we ever again get to play Terra Therma or Viridian Bog? Even River City is hard to get. I actually feel sorry for the guys who put so much time into making these maps.

It is ridiculous.. Been enjoing this game since open beta. Always been quiet ok with any changes/improvements they made. Never felt the need to post anything on the forums. But this voting system is even getting to me so I will add my voice to this storm in the hope to add some community pressure:

I liked not knowing whitch map or game mode was about to hit me. I liked having to cope with less or more preferable conditions (maps). I liked having to deal with therra every once in while. It gave me sence of being a mechpilot not knowing where my next fight will be. It gave me challenge and diversity.

I understand the wish to shorten machtmaker waiting time but this way the price that is being payed is diversity of play. And that is NOT okay for me.
  • Don't put game mode in a voting system (if there must be more incentive to play give the different modes some achievements or something),
  • If there must be map voting then put up only 2 at the time and group them per heatscale (2 hot maps or 2 temperate maps or to cold maps etc.).

Map voting should be removed too. Random maps is the way to go.

I could see leaving map voting in if it actually reduced wait times, but since if anything it makes them longer I am a fan of completely removing the whole voting function as well. Mind you I was a fan of leaving game mode to random as well, but trolls and high alpha "competitive" players had a **** storm bitching about having to play conquest. I guess it is the same people defending the new system as well. I guess PGI is a business and only cares about extracting money from diehard fans and high alpha "competitive" with money whales.

But in the previous system one could simply 'uncheck' conquest no?

Yes. But now they can "vote-force" everyone to playing "their" mode, including the previously Conquest-only players (or non-skirmish players in general), thus increasing the population in Skirmish games.

For the record, I haven't dropped in the last day, but I found the wait times no shorter than before, when I had Skirmish un-checked and had to search for games within the smaller population. So I really fail to see how this helps.

I would be fine with random maps AND modes.

The current system is open to larger groups min/maxing their decks and voting the specific map and mode which best favours them.

Back in the days of MW4 , one of the most popular server types was the dreaded No heat/No ammo types. I am absolutely not surprised that a crappy map such as Frozen City is suddenly the most popular map in the game. Devs should understand people will always go for the path of least resistance... and not having to mind your heat management is the path of least resistance.

That being said, they will have to find a way to encourage people to play something other than cold maps and skirmish. A much needed revamp of the conquest game mode is in order ( I'd turn it into take and hold myself and drop cap points ) and perhaps even c-bill bonus to earnings for taking maps/game modes that comparatively haven't been played much in say the last 15 mins.

Well in conquest you get more C-Bills, and still people don't play it. Incentives clearly don't work, and apparently neither does voting, though with even the most basic amount of thinking would have told you the later would never work.

Well between the COMPLETELY unfair tier rating and this voting crap, this game is slowly going down hill in the fun category. I can ignore the pilot rating but the vote for the same maps and same mode is getting really BORING. The same 2 maps with skirmish over and over and over again is getting to me.

i honestly am not bothered by map voting NEARLY AS MUCH as i am by the FORCED SKIRMISH MODE. Sorry, its stupid to think that voting works in a game. All it does is anger people.

Look at this: "While it’s true that this new system will mean that players who have previously chosen to de-select a specific game mode will now sometimes need to play the game mode they would have otherwise never played, we feel that this change is the right choice going forward." (c) some developer who forgot to check that there are map votes too.

Is that true that someone said this silly thing?

Maybe he meant: "...going forward to shedding players and losing money"?

Maybe someone can start our own voting system on what players actually want.
Here are some ideas.

Vote now.
  • (1) Keep the new voting system, it works for me.
  • (2) Go back to the previous system. I like random maps but I prefer to select game type.
  • (3) Go back even further to random maps and game type.
  • (4) Go back to 8 players, I loved the old days.
  • (5) Back to the drawing board.

I would probably pick option 4.. haha
