I've heard in the latest Dev Vlog about the possibility of bots in custom matches. Well, they said "other purposes" when they improve the academies bots in "The Gauntlet".

I'm just hoping for bots.

Bots would be nice but they'd be a helluva lot of work. Can you imagine trying to get them to pathfind on maps like CS and Caustic?

really people ?????

can any of us ever see PGI being able to even remotely code a basic AI, let alone one that is able to negotiate the maps ??

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

i mean look at the turrets they used to have on assault modes....

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

just not going to happen in any form that is even close to AI, let alone a passable one

conrats to you sir, you made me laugh for the day, and for that i thank you.

Look for a Jenner two steps and a hop, two steps and a hop
You can set your watch by that thing

First tussel with that thing it circles shooting randomly then runs off for no reason
That Jenner should have tore my raven apart but it runs off for some reason

Haven't seen one in awhile but your reaction is where the hell did he come from, then what the hell is he doing, then it gets killed or runs off hardly firing

Everyone on your team is like what the heck was that

After one tusel with that Jenner I never went off on my own again (CW)
Havent seen one in months
(Once I found out I was playing 65hrs a week I started cutting back)

If you play enough you see all kinds of crazy stuff
The last crazy thing I saw was a few weeks ago
So I just realized I can go to the testing grounds and try it out

I am out of state on a tablet

You dont want Atlas doing jack because their path is blocked by small rocks. Bots with a capable AI would be awesome. Do i think this game will have that anyday soon? Not really.

Unfortunately, I really doubt that a company that can't figure out their own weapon code and add switchable ammo types, is able to implement AI that can do more than just walk around randomly and shoot at the closest target.

Hehe, bots/AI.

This will sure end well!

Can imagine bots so dumb there would be no challenge at all, basically a walkthrough. Boring AI PvE won't have replay-ability.

Making smart BOTs would upset the dumb people, they would have to be nerf'd.

After people play PvE and then go into the real game, PvP, they are destroyed because they are used to playing dumb bots and not smart people. They cry, we laugh.

It's doable, but I would be more worried about them making them too lethal with their cycling and aiming rather than too dumb. Imagine a mobile missile base from Assault, even one that did have a habit on getting caught on the scenery.

What I think is doable and I'd like to see:

A very simple bot that circles, shoots and torso twists in training grounds and tutorial.

Escort Convoy. They could have 4 or 5 preselected routs so the enemy doesn't always camp the same spot and needs to do a little scouting. Maybe have a few tanks, catapult or mad dog to walk along the trucks and pop off shots as they move with the trucks.

I think 40% is bring conservative.... I think the number is closer to 80%...

Then again I find a lot of pilots are rather predictable in MWO....

Why have the bots in regular play? Cynicism from the community aside, they could add a game mode that pits 4 players against a bunch of bots in a objective style mission kinda like the campaign in older Mechwarrior games just without the story.

As long as bots aren't allowed in standard PvP matches, they should be PvE only.

Making bots capable of navigating maps with slopes, rivers, cliffs, buildings, stairs and tunnels is hard enough. But you also have to account for the fact that most maps have hundreds (!) of places where intelligent players can and will get stuck with some regularity. If a problem solving human is struggling to navigate these maps, strewn with pebbles, branches and bumps that bring your mech to a sudden stop at any time, then I'd like to see a bot successfuly navigate the same maps.

Hell, show me a bot that can climb the stairs on Viridian Bog in an assault mech without jump jets and I'll give you a million dollars.
