When i downloaded and launched the game I just get a few tabs at the top " game, media, forums, community and support" but nothing about how to get to the mechlab and start the game, any pointers on the best way to get started, thanks.

There should be a button coloured blue that says play click on that. Then it should ask you to to log in.

click the big blue download now button top right
then install the patcher,
then patch to install the game, there is an 8gb download, after the download finished everything is installed, when the patch button changed to play you can really play the game.

If it doesn't say play it probably says patch.
