Would be awesome if they fixed the embarrassing Auto Detect screens before steam launch and confusing thousands of new players.

I like the idea of adding MWO to Steam to bring in more players, my concern is the time it takes to learn this game added to the cost in c-bills of getting the first Mech may drive most new players away. Having a Mech you can modify and improve performance through the unlocks may keep someone on long enough to get good enough to want to stick with the game. So I think adding a choice of medium IS Mech as a reward for finishing some portion of the training training, such as a Centurian or Hunchback or something similar, would help them do this. Having a Mech they can upgrade and unlock the skills on right after training would give the new player a chance to benifit his team and have a more positive start. I suggest a medium because it can fill many roles and therefore gives a new player a chance to try different styles of play to see if they prefer light and fast or slow and more firepower. If not this, there should be something to reward new pilots so they hopefully stick around and give the game a fair shot.

They should also let them know that out of all the maps we have and different combat modes, all you will be allowed to play is cold maps and skirmish mode only.

assuming the map and mode votes still exist as of then. also, for the guy who said older mechs are non-competitive... have no idea what you're smoking. it's not the mech that's at fault. it's entirely us, the pilots. i know plenty of Dragon, Atlas, Awesome, Victor and so on pilots that do just fine at blowing up whatever happens to be new at the time. fact is, you'll kick ass the best in a mech you're comfortable in, with a fit that fits your playstyle, as it should be.

mean, hell, the TDR-5SS IS a supermeta with ridiculous MPL range...but how many of those guys actually fight at range? they'd be brawling as pulse boats regardless. it's just their playstyle (and it doesn't hurt most Clanners currently try to laser-meta and constantly overheat themselves, thus giving easy kills to Brawler players).

Clanners play laser meta because Clan ACs (except LBXs) are nerfed so bad and far less effective than IS ACs.

Oh yeah. I cannot wait until the new players join...

I think some will get hooked in the beginning until they realize that the game modes are played all basicall the same way: go for the enemy mechs. Simply because it is the most viable tactic.

Then they will try CW. And now the tears will really start to flow:

1. They will complain about CW and its hose-like maps, then being seal clubbed by premades
2. The premades will belittle the newbies and claim to wanna fight other premades (while trying their best to avoid them).
3. The more experienced CW pug players will also be annoyed because pug life in CW is already bad enough but with the totally green new players it will become as said above: seal clubbing
4. Premade players will tell everyone that CW is reserved for premades and that puggers should stay the hell out - while crying their little eyes out that the queues are very long

Long story short: a steaming pile of dung, stays a steaming pile of dung. Mixing premades and pugs hasn't worked so far

I wish PGI all the best, but I think a steam launch next month is premature, especially with the upcoming re-balance. Might be in PGI and MWO's best interest to put back the steam launch by 6 to 12 months.

Maybe they should just have every new player henceforth start with a stock T-bolt. It's a fairly standard mech that's played in all Tiers of gameplay, really a must-have for any beginner. New players can worry initially about upgrading their T-bolt first, then about purchasing new mechs. Would get them started initially on purchasing other heavies, the bread-&-butter attack mechs (I know that mediums are the official bread-&-butter mechs of the Battletech universe, but we are not resource limited here so...).

What do you guys think? Start with a free T-bolt?

Maybe a Centurion or Hunchback instead of a Thunderbolt?

Hunchie is a solid allround mech, capable of several roles.

Does this mean i will have to re-download and reinstall the game via steam?

If so you can probably count me down as an uninstall and a clean pair of heels. Sorry but i'm not gonna bother with a reinstall if that's the case.

First of all, if thats enough of a reason to uninstall a game...

Second, other games that went to steam can still be played by the game launcher, but won't have the steam overlay, community, and so on.

Email invitation to 100 players will be sent out tomorrow by noon PST!

We have increased the invitations from 50 to 100 due to receiving over 200 applications. Unfortunately due to this however, we will not accept +1 guests in the invitation as we would like to have as many community members as we can.
