Do the launch party justice this time. Steam is a big opportunity!

I noticed players saying there would be awkward silence? Ha! Clearly they have not met many aussies! I can talk battle tech, mech builds, tactics and lore with mates for hours! Anyway, hope the launch party goes well (no awkward silences ).
As for the Steam launch, I think it is definitely a good move. The game could do with more exposure to a wider audience, even though it will be difficult for the average gamer who has never experienced the Battle Tech universe. The community numbers could do with some bolstering, and this should definitely help. My only gripe with playing MWO through Steam is I will now know how many hours I pump into this game! Ahh, such ignorant bliss will be lost!

I have noticed that often most of the trial mechs have terrible loadouts, with steam launching
I feel it would be a good idea to have all trial mechs setup with meta builds, make them available for say the first 100-150 drops, then back to standard trials..this will give new players a chance to atleast survive long enough to get a taste of the game.

Are you guys going to have a Steam-integrated API?
The only reason I ask is because I literally know ten people right now who are interested in joining MWO but are just waiting for the Steam launch (might as well at this point, right?). HOWEVER, they basically leveled with me and said they probably won't bother if they have to create an extra MWO account and log onto a separate application EVERY SINGLE TIME, instead of automatically logging in with their Steam account.
This is a SERIOUS game breaker!!! Pretty much everyone hates having multiple accounts for everything, they would rather congregate as much as they can into one account. Heck, it might even be a good idea to allow for merging an existing account into that player's steam account. PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE TELL ME somebody else has thought of this already???

this is entirely why the meta is CHANGING before the Steam launch. we'll ALL be in the same boat.

Watched that video and the one related to it about doing Free to Play wrong. I honestly think that PGI should, as a general thing, take a look at these guys and look into applying their wisdom and thought-processes regarding their current model. I think it would help out quite a bit and help make this game more financially sustainable...
I mean, one thing that stuck out to me was the idea of making people *want* to buy a thing...which, to me, means that the Hero Mechs need to be competitive. Not better, just competitive... I say this because I have lost count of how many times I have heard from the comp-players "Don't take Hero Mechs, they suck in comparison to every other variant of the same chassis" or something that sounds similar. Just something to think about really...

I think I can speak for everyone that has some sort of 'Status' that has come from investing time and/or money (though mostly money) into this game; this is kind of a huge deal here.
While I certainly am looking forward to the Steam Release (even with my misgivings, I still see the potential for growth and awesome here and I *want* that for this game), I would really prefer that my MWO and Steam accounts get merged...while I don't have a different name, I don't want to run the risk of losing my Project Phoenix stuff when I log in/play through Steam.

in all honesty, the only reason hero mechs aren't competitive is two reasons. one, everyone and their sister wasn't to use meta mechs all the time, hence the rebalance coming. and two, people never bother to get inventive with fits on their own. I've effectively used my Yen-Lo-Wang, Pirate's Bane AND Top Dog every time i pilot them, and pretty much the main thing that's usually killed them IS the current Super-Metas....so.. yeah.

With the Steam release for MWO, what exactly is all moving/working on Steam? Will it just be a platform to download the client and purchase MC/mechpacks or will the servers also be migrated to the Steam platform?
I know that as a student some college networks implement firewalls that block some access ports used by game servers. I should know, I live at one of those colleges. As far as I have been able to test, all games using the Steam servers play fine and never have significant connectivity issues. However, if the game is using the third party installer and servers, its more than likely that there is no chance of playing those games due to the server's ports being blocked.
Right now with how MWO is set up, I can download updates to the client and get as far as the login screen. After that I try logging in and all I get is a server timeout connection error.
If the servers don't shift over or don't port through Steam's client, honestly its no skin off my back (Senior year and probably better for my grades anyway). However this may be good knowledge for the rest of the community to have depending upon their situation.
So to sum up, with the Steam release, does this mean a change for the servers as well or just the distribution platform?

So you would download it from steam,
install it,
click on it to play,
it would launch the MWO client OR the MWO login screen,
you type in exisiting MWO account info to login
and everything else would essentially be the same.
Seeing how MWO creates seperate folder under User to store player configuration info like controls and graphic options, I'm sure that they can even carry over all existing player info to skip the hassle of reconfiguring.
