I think I have figured it out.

PGI are going to change the gameplay so drastically that any vets still playing will basically be starting from scratch and will have no more idea on how to play than the average newbie from steam will. Thereby avoiding any issues of vets stomping noobs and any ruckus caused thereby.

Yeah a great plan!

Not sure if serious, but believe me, that dark possibility has crossed my mind, too.

Turn into MWO 2.0, randomize and ghost everything into one giant mess, spray the unbalanced shovelware across Steam, and there you go - done. Make the older players start over in a way to try to keep the new ones around long enough to spend money. It's easier than actually fixing anything, I guess.

But it exists...

WhenI started, we didn't even have a readme.txt

That's like saying CW is a beta. It's loses its meaning when it doesn't get core issues fixed, so we keep praying that it gets "resolved" in the next CW phase.

It's one thing to have it... it's another thing to know it's not enough.

We had a "tutorial" in 2013 too, but that was a joke, and everyone knew it. By said logic, it was "good enough" for 2013 for Launch.

This is the same reality... 2 years later.

Too soon methinks, still so much to do in terms of balancing, NPE , UI, bug fixing, optimizations

The same things were said when they decided to go to open beta ...

One of the big things missing at open beta was a meta game that would give you reasons to play beyond the fun of each individual match. Community warfare was supposed to be one of the key elements of this but it doesn't seem to have worked out that well so far. A better mech XP system and leaderboards were also elements to motivate and retain players that they have so far failed to execute on ...

Anyway, I wish them the best of luck with the steam release.

Maybe we should be more optimistic about it? Maybe the gamenisnt perfect for us, playing it for years, but for a new player it should be great. Mwo is a very solid game right now, just need some tweaks.

Its a little telling when my first reaction is wondering should I cancel/refund my IIC, Marauder and Warhammer packages.

This could be such a high risk move. I'm not sure the reward is worth it yet.

Edit: Hell the forum is still a buggy piece of crap that still takes 5 minutes to post sometimes even longer to load a page. Yet they want to slow it down with new steam posters?

It was partly in jest.

However it truly depends on what they launch as the re-balance as to whether it is a joke or fortunetelling.

The other alternative is they are trying to make the vets leave before noob stomping becomes a problem. anecdotal evidence, from the number of "I quit" threads lately, suggests it might be working.

It's all a big conspiracy to make people give up on posting negative feedback!

Time to copy the game data if you want to keep "your mechs" you paid real money for.

Apparently Russ blocked me on Twitter not too long after I posted this.

What a thin skin, I wasn't even criticizing the game directly, just saying people on Steam will probably not like it.

Oh well, he can block whoever he wants if he doesn't want people tweeting criticism at him, whether it's fair criticism or not.

Probably a negative overload, and he's just blocking everything negative.

I guess he doesn't like that opinion.

LOL PGI is funny anyway... steam launch will be a success for them ( more players more moneys ) but will thoses people will stay enough for spend more money and make this game viable longer? Not sure....

They should finish CW feature like buying mechs with unit coffers FOR WE DAMN HELP THOSES NEWS PLAYERS TO ENJOY THIS DAMN GAME -_- oh maybe you prefer they buy theirs mechs with MCs ok ok ^^
will they do it? .. héhé will see. ( they should do it anyway if they enjoyed the game and with real units feature they would far far more than now )
No specific servers for news players till they become veterans too ? ok ok

Good luck with steam release lots of news tier 3 and tier 4 pilots soon in solo queue and group queue lots of ownage for veterans and lots of uninstall for steamers. GGClose and again a good opportunity losed for this game.

Edit : in fact this game is really near his end, i mean low playerbase that why we got a voting system ( and also an artificial lower waiting time ) and soon the famous steam release ( again for lower waiting time and of course get some cash flow ) whatever if CW is still in beta 2, soon beta 3 and in fact same step than beta 1 when release ..

Well, Russ likes retweeting everything positive.

It almost makes NGNG's pre-Townhall filtering seem legit.

Could also be that he's concerned about potentially new players seeing exchanges like that on his Twitter, although if that's the case then you'd think he would just use the MechWarriorF2P account more or something.

Either way, I wasn't being unfairly harsh there and he could've just responded with something positive, but I guess blocking out the negative was his preferred response.

Perhaps that was the only sort of response he could think of but he didn't want another repeat of the island incident?

Who knows.
