It's not only that, but if the initial wave of players is turned off by a bad game, they will reduce any new income of players in the future by giving the game bad reviews.

If you are not a MechWarrior veteran or fan, why would you even try a game with a bad rating ? Sure not everyone thinks like this and MWO does cater to a specific audience that like vehicle combat and there aren't that many games like that, but still. This is MWO best and probably only chance to try to appeal to large chunk of average Joes that have no preexisting interest in it.

Looking forward to it. Mostly because of content held back and its another chapter in the Mechwarrior saga. :)

Good luck to the peeps making this game. Its the best shooter out there and promises to be more. So far so good.

Oh and about reviews, dont worry good or bad, Fallout 4 is getting mostly positive instead of the over whelmingly positive it deserves. So the trolls are running hot and heavy giving game reviews less than they deserve. The best games can expect alot of trolls these days.

Hint: Fallout 4 is made for modding and modders first. It will be going strong until maybe 2025 because literally every aspect of the game can be added to and upgraded easily. I hope Mechwarrior Online will go for that long to.

To the trolls out there, when are you going to learn disrespecting good things wont make your sucktastic any better. :)

I'm a long time defender of MWO... long time.

I've been through some stuff man... all the way back in closed beta till now.

It's been a hell of a ride, but... you know, i'm just a little sad that, PGI has again, ignored the playerbase when we told them "MWO is not ready for release."

What people forget about is, when MWO went open beta, full open beta... those of us in the closed access, yelled no. Because they choose to do so right after a huge c-bill nerf AND a disastrous change to LRM's.

They pushed back a single week...nothing more, when they needed at least 3 months more work[some would argue a year.]

I guess it's not surprising, since it's still the same old fools in the same old positions... it's, just sad.

I hope the rebalance is stable, that it fixes the issues... because if it doesn't... this game is going to burn with mostly negative reviews on steam.

I knew the Titanic should have been directed by Micheal Bay!
Anyway, this is my reaction to an early Steam release:

Aside from announcing a time-line quantum leap expansion... this is really their last ditch effort at getting a larger player base.
But the problem here is retaining that influx of players. MWO isn't there yet. The unfortunate part is we're missing story behind why we are fighting and the lore behind CW. We're missing CW phase 3 and all of the future changes that are due to follow (see the improvements they made between Dec '14 to Apr '15) to help solo players collaborate and understand which planets they should be attacking.

PGI can't even be bothered copy-pasting text from Sarna into a box that pops up when you hover over a mech, explaining the history of it. Heck, World of Warships has that, even for paper-ships that never got off the drawing board. Of course, if they did that in MWO, they'd have to explain why so many mechs described as "fearsome" in Sarna are total trash in game, and why many other mechs are never to be used in their intended roles (missile platforms, etc.)

They could even at some info about the various factions and such, but no... far better to have a pretty map with cute symbols and icons flashing all over it that means nothing to a new player... and lots of planets with "no information" about them... so why are we even here? Argh!

I feel like we've been here before, its closed beta, throwing our hands up yelling "Stop dont do it!" as they charged ahead anyway.

Whatever PGI.

Hmmm, personally I think they should have released it to steam after CW phase 3. For the people complaining about balance, just know that no matter how they tune it, something, somewhere, will always be unbalanced - It is always going to be an ongoing issue.

Another aspect you have to consider is PGI's current budget. Maybe they did not want to release it just yet either, but budget issues demanded a much needed source of revenue, so they're crossing their fingers with the Steam release. But, that's just a theory.

Though one important message to the community.

Whether or not you feel this release is too early, it is happening. So it is our job not to infect this negative toxicity and nub bashing into the new players that are potentially joining this community. Like it or not, we need them as much as they need us for help. So do your best to put on that tacky smile for a few months and help out as best you can.

This is the only FPS Battletech game we have. And no matter what issues you think it has, it is better than nothing.

What a disaster. The sad thing is that when PGI falls apart, it will be the employees that suffer, while paul and russ walk away with pockets full of founder money. Steam is going to rip this game apart, and I will be among the first to apply a negative review.

sorry but rofl. The laundry list of things that must be fixed before steam launch was just like their pillars of gaming.

Every game in every closed beta has prayed for the last second miracle to fix all the issues.

I have yet to see even one do it successfully. Not one in 30 years of beta testing.

the point is simple.. they will go to steam.. milk it for some cash... get seriously negative reviews and then thats all...

they dont care... all they will lose is the steam players base and thats it.. they will gain some money and thats all about it...

Yip. Popcorn will be stocked, the F5 (to read all the entertaining negative reviews on steam) will be well oiled and a lounge chair stands at the ready.

I think there's a lot of Chicken Little going on here. First, unless it's a major splash on Steam (probably not), players are going to trickle in. Not likely to be a deluge. Getting hammered their first 25 games will be made up for by C-Bill gains. Game 26 will be a shock. The "trickle in" players will leave after a month, but they might spend $7-13 to buy mech bays or something.

It's unlikely to be as bad as most are thinking. But I don't think it will be all that good except for the possibility of minuscule developer bonuses for the Christmas season (assuming those $7-12 sales happen).

The game is not in a very good state. It will be in approximately the same state Jan 1, 2016 as it is today - just with a few negative reviews on Steam because not that many people are champing at the bit to play MWO as is, let alone with minimal advertising on Steam.

Or do you believe this will be a "major" Steam title?

What a thin skin, I wasn't even criticizing the game directly, just saying people on Steam will probably not like it.

Oh well, he can block whoever he wants if he doesn't want people tweeting criticism at him, whether it's fair criticism or not.

And he says WE are on an island?

I imagine it will get shown on the Steam launch page at least. Being F2P, that should result in a lot of new downloads. We will see though.

So, your asking the veteran community to become SHILLS and not explain to the new players what they're in for? All because PGI has the market cornered in Big Stompy Robot FPS?

Wow dude...
