Hi,
I don't know the game very well yet, and didn't try any game of CW. I'll start tonight in a few hours, but I'd have a few questions about it!!

1) What about Hero Mechs in CW?
Do the C-Bills boost still apply, or not?
If it does, how is it calculated if you're playing 2 or 3 hero mechs in the deck?

2) What about tonnage?
If you don't use the full allowed tonnage in your deck, are those unused tons lost for your team? Or is there a matchmaking feature implying that only teams of the same weight will fight?

3) First drops? Medium deck?
It looks like the first mech is usually the heaviest possible!? I don't play well with Assaults and I don't own any good heavy. Is a deck full of medium mechs (HBK, CN9, GRF... maybe even a light for last) viable?

Thanks!

1) As far as I know the c-bill boost partially applies. Having 1 hero won't give you 30% overall but you'll get something. Having all 4 hero mechs means you will get the +30% for the whole thing. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

2) Yes, unused tonnage is lost and doesn't amount to anything. No one else can use the lost tonnage.

3) If attacking, first mech should be long-range and fast and tough so heavies. For defenders, you can have more flexibility but expect a rush of heavy mechs so drop in something that can deal with that. Ideally you want all fast mechs as attacker cause you have to run back in to reinforce the other guys after you die.

If you have no heavy mechs that's fine. I do suggest you try to find a group (there are other threads that teach you how). Being with a group that's a bit more coordinated will increase your chances of success more than the selection of your drop deck.

No expert here but I probably can relate to your experience more in CW than experts when you drop since I have few CW games myself. He answered your questions above and I used my Yen lol other night in CW so it appears to boost somehow in cbills. Best advice is get in group and on TS server with house or clan you will be with. Then bring your best mechs. I know the meta dominates but I brought my Yen lo other night and broke the clan defense line pretty well by getting in close and hitting anything behind the lines. So just have fun, learn from other ( enemy included ) don't be afraid to ask questions and don't worry about tonnage as much now but bring best mechs you perform
In. I have hardly no assaults except for victor and atlas and neither I do well in so I have been bringing 2 fast mediums instead.
Also pick based on defending or attacking as said above.

Thx for your replies.

Just tried my 1st CW match. Made 2 kills but a very low score overall.
I'll do better next time...

But... holy cow... the CW interface is so confusing. I don't understand anything about the preparation of games.

Seriously... looks like I've been lucky for my 1st game, but how do you know that a match is going to start?
How do you choose a planet likely to see a battle soon?!

in CW matches start when a full team of 12 is available for both sides, and when a window is open, there is a limit to the number of matches that can be played on each planet, I think 1 starts every minute
look for maps which have close to a multiple of 12 on each team, or bringing 11 friends along are the best ways to get a match quickly

If there are e.g. 12 on the enemy side and 11 on your side, when you join, the match should form immediately (unless someone else beats you to it), then you wait for an empty slot on the planet, which would usualy be less than a minute, then you find out what game mode and map and are given 1 minute to change your drop deck.

if your side has 12 players but the enemy side does not then you wait up-to 10 minutes for an opponent, if an opponent shows up you fight, if at the end of 10 minutes there is no opponent you launch on what is sometimes called a turret drop or ghost drop, there is no enemy so you just have to destroy the base defended by turrets

There currently seem to be less clan players, so if you do defense on a world with too few attackers, you may not get a match. The fastest matches will be on places where the opponents already have a group of 12, and your team doesn't.

Maybe try fighting another innersphere faction like Steiner or Liao, if there is anyone on those planets.
