Well since Steam launch is about to happen was just thinking it might be good for the community to set something up to help new players. Not sure what it should be but would be nice if he help keep as many players as possible. Any one have any good ideas?

My guess is posting some links to the popular guides on the steam community forum would be good. Not sure if the plan is to start a new steam community for MWO like I've seen with other games, or if they'll point players here (like WT uses their own forums).

The game isn't ready for Steam but some of the players might be, so I'll be looking for players that ask for help in-game and do my best to answer their questions.

Laser vomit on Frozen Skirmish till your eyes bleed. Have fun!

And buy another mechpak already!

Well I can tell you right now it won't be machine guns and flamers, as much as I would love that

Nah, a good part of the community will spend its time informing any new players they meet just how terrible this game is and why it wasn't ready for release.

Steam has a guide section doesn't it for games? Things could always be put up there.

Who knows? Maybe it'll be LRMs and LB autocannons...

A lot depends on the details. If they set up a Steam Community page with all the bells and whistles, it might be a good idea for people to post guides, especially for things like mech customization, basic gameplay principles, and game mode advice (especially for CW).

I'll be making a video for new players on my channel. That's about all I can do as an individual aside from praying the game catches on.

Well a good first step would be for this community to not be so childish, angry, futile, negative & toxic.

Never have I seen so many grown-ups behaving like spoiled princesses who think they know **** best.

I know for sure they will try to make the newcomers-life miserable, because they were once butthurt that 3PV was implemented, or EMC is still not behaving like THEY want, because once you could buy 500$ mechs.....I could go on.

Those people live in the past and are butthurt that they do not have what THEY expected, without thinking what everyone else might think and that there are people who throughoutly enjoy this game.

PGI should do everything possible, to get new players into units that can train them, and carry them some, till they get the hang of the game, be able to do all the basics, and coordinate as a team mate first thing...!!! vs turning them out into the solo Que, or the 2-3 friends hell that is group Que, as stray cat's to get stomped over and over till they rage quit first thing, and never come back...!!!
Never Ever let them get into the Solo / Rambo / so damn Ultra Casual they cant be bothered to play with anyone but my 2-3 friend's mind set........

Most will try the LFG feature, so I will be there and try to get most of them in my group and chat with them in the teamchat, because many will have questions and not want to enter this vile forum. Then I will drop with them, knowing I might be facing 12 man premades, only waiting for seal-clubbing.

Then I will tell at the beginning of the match that I'm dropping with 11 new players and if they want to have any players in 3-6 months to play with, they better dont give them a too hard time. Because if we as a community scare away the steam players, this game will probably die.

And no, there won't be any MW substitute for a loooooooooooooong time so have fun playing whatever else you want.

OR you could try to sustain this game or already leave and play whatever else you want.

Wouldn't be a bad idea OP

Are any of the unofficial forum historians still around? They have the bookmarks and such for some great guides and tips written over the years.

New players will be finding that out for themselves, there won't need to be much effort from any current players to let new players know that.

That's true, putting up some popular guides on Steam would probably be more helpful than anything else the current playerbase could do and it could actually be worthwhile.

When I started I didn't know about 2x basics. Kind of wish new players in trial mechs could enjoy them fully elited when they're trying them out.

I think that's easy to implement and a reasonable request.

I'm going to make a guide on how to pick and build a mech for new players when this hits steam. Five star it!

I'm sure I'll see a lot of the new players since I'm tier 3, the butthurt tier between good and bad.

Hate to break it to you but people coming in from steam are going to be 99% solo pugs or maybe at most 1-2 friends. And they will not want to commit time to joining a unit and training before they jump into games. Sorry but expecting steam players to do that is just totally unrealistic.

Best thing vets can do is what some people have suggested above. Offer help (in a non-d-bag way), write up guides, post video tutorials, generally be good sports in games and in voip and maybe don't run your uber meta mechs as much during the first month of release to at least make the games closer/more interesting. In fact maybe run your worst mechs to make it more a challenge for yourself.

Also, very basic video tutorials on how to navigate the UI would be super useful. I've recently brought 3 friends to MWO and getting them familiar with the UI was a big challenge. E.g. Where to even look to send chat/friend/group requests, how to buy a mech, the mech lab, where to level mechs w/ exp. etc.
