Played tabletop for the first time when I was 15 or 16 (24-25 years ago).
Played several MW games, both MechCommander's.
Yup, I'm here for BT.

I would maybe try it if it wasn't, but I would most definately not spend $120 on some complete mystery.

P.S. add "Maybe" or "Dunno" as an option please.
I can't vote.

I would play it if the mechanics are balanced. That's kind of the key, since it's based on and IP that has been around for years, its a lot easier to make that assessment.

Play yes, give them $60 site unseen, no.

Thanks for the compliment MinionJoe. B) I'm also finding the answers really interesting. Nice to see the enthusiasm and love from the hardcore guys and also nice to see what people with little or no BT background are saying too.

I think the ratio of people here, that know what true BT/MW is much much much much MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH lower, for anyone to really care or even devs for that matter to care if its pure BT or MW.

Their going to release and add what the majority of people want, even if the majority has no idea about BT or MW, because well simple that's what makes money and pays bills.

Look at WoT, when I started WoT 2 years some ago in closed beta, it was very WW2 tanks fanatic based, as more masses showed up, the whole idea of the game went to ****, and now you see tanks on a battle field that were way OP, completly out of their time frame, and in configurations they never even existed, so the nerf hammer started to come down so much. Now they are mostly left with nuubs with 3000 or less battles.

But the thing is who cares if they are mostly left with noobs with 3k battles or less when those are the people that pay the big bucks B).

That is all,
bakon

P.S. Im still looking forward to play this, should be rather interesting, I even went as far as purchasing all the Battletech books I could find, to further exercise my knowledge .

I'd counter by saying this isn't Battltech, this is Mechwarrior :3

The main draw for me is the MW brand and the fact it's slower more sim like combat. I play all sorts of mecha games though.

I'm here for the Battletech.
That being said, I'm not here for the Mechwarrior, (yes there is a difference)

However I understand that one cannot directly translate BT TT into a MMO without some compromise into the MW "Arcade" game

I've passed over other "giant mecha bot" games before, if this were Gundam online, I wouldn't have even bothered.

I'd counter-counter by saying that Battletech is the tabletop game while Mechwarrior is the video game. But they both share the majority of the backstory.

Much in the same way that Star Trek is the TV show/movie and Star Fleet Battles is the wargame, but they still share a history.

But, yes, I too prefer mech games where the mechs actually have WEIGHT. :) Anyone here remember Earthseige/Battledrome?

I've never had any desire to play another giant robot game. When I want to brawl 20-100 ton mechs, I choose Mechwarrior.

If the core gameplay is good, then maybe I would continue to play it, but I'm primarily here because it is BattleTech/Mechwarrior. I love the fiction of the universe etc....

I would. But no other mech type game is themed better than MW, so we don't. We wait. Play something else till another MW comes out.

I triple cross counter with in BT combine arms were a viable tactic and even in lore the Clans were only stopped by Comstar who fielded a mixed force and yet in offical MW gaames, combined arms are treated as a joke. :3

Personally I would play this game either way I love mechs and have played games like armored core and chromrehounds, but the real question for me atleast is would I drop 120 bucks on an AC game or be this excited about an AC game and the answer is a resounding NO.

If it was a different IP and I had heard of it, I might have played it, maybe, but certainly not have preordered. I have tanks that need grinding and lots of exp to convert that would have gotten the dough instead. I heard about it and listened because it was BT. I only heard about Hawken for example because of this, and it has no pull for me. If this game were to somehow magically transmorgify into a different IP in the future, well I have tanks to run.
