I am a total F2P player. Never paid a cent for anything. When they implemented this Tier system I have noticed I that I can never move up. I play and play.

Is this because I have never purchased anything? Is there some sort "Wall" I will never get past?

You're talking like there's some benefit from moving up in tiers, but there really isn't. I've bought practically every mech pack ever released, played causally for about 3 years now, I'm still tier 4. Wouldn't have it any other way. In fact if I could freeze my tier at 4 I would.

Can someone tell me if the bar I am seeing under the words Tier 5 ARE a progress bar or not? Because it's never moved. Basically I'm not going to worry too much about what tier I am, but I DO want to make sure I'm not bugged so my tier is an accurate reflection of where I am.

I don't know if "progress bar" is really the right name for it because "progress" implies that something is getting better, but yes that bar indicates the amount of experience you have accumulated toward the next Tier.

It's supposed to take ~2500 games to reach Tier 1, so that bar moves very slowly. I can often play an entire weekend and only see it move 3-5 pixels. In fact if I didn't actually take a close look and check its position relative to the surrounding letters, etc, I might not realize that it had moved at all.

I created an alt account to see how I'd fair in stock trial mechs. I hadn't not had 200 plus mechs at my disposal in a very long time. I made it to tier three in less than ten matches. Current stats: 5 wins 5 losses. Now, I suspect that I'd stick around tier three in that account for quite a while if ever getting out of it if I kept playing that account. My main is, as you can see, tier three. A high tier three creeping into tier two, but still tier three. I've been three since the new system came out.

If that really is the case, something is completely whacked. I kept my stats this evening as I'd just moved tier 4 yesterday and only played three or four matches before calling it a night. So I wanted to track progress, as I was basically starting the tier new. Below are the numbers:

Matches ---------- Wins ------ Losses ------ Win % ----- Kills ------ Deaths ----- K/D ----- Avg. Dam ----- Avg Exp
-- 28----------------- 21 ------------- 7 ----------- 75% -------- 37 ------------ 9 ------------ 4.1 ------ 467 --------------- 3311

I had several match high scores and high damages in there. In fact I had the match high score in two of the losses, which I think is odd.

So anyway, I think that's reasonably good, but I'm only about 1/3 into T4. I don't want to be promoted, I'm fine with this speed, but I don't understand how you have a system where some people crawl in progress and other people get like promoted to tier 2 while in the Academy shooting gallery.

Hm, thinking about this, one thing could be that your first 10 or 20 matches are weighted _way_ out of proportion (perhaps only when you win or when you get above a certain threshold) in order to get veteran players with an alt-account out of tier-4/5 as fast as possible (you know, seal-clubbing and all that).

I don´t have any prove (or even evidence) besides the statements made above, of course.

I was thinking about it last night and that was the same conclusion I reached. If you score far better than a new player should in the first few matches, they must be flagging you as an experienced player and putting you into a fast lane to higher tiers.

This is a sensible design to prevent what we used to call baby seal clubbing, where an experienced player gets into the kiddie pool of any game. And their lack of explanation makes sense as it's easy to get around if you are a serious griefer.

I'm not sure I understand the slow lane very well though, as my T5 progress was far slower than my T4, but it's a matter of curiosity at this point.

The thing I don't like about this system is it very much discourages experimentation. Switch to a mech class you've never played much and you're going to struggle, but if you do so or worse spend some time trying out a bunch of mechs you haven't tried, you'll get a big string of negative results and suddenly your progress drops to glacially slow. In the end I'm going to do it, but it certainly makes me feel I'm going to suffer negative consequences for trying to learn something new.

They are - it's done to help new players reach their appropriate tier more quickly.

An established account that's been placed in Tier 4 will take a very long time to get to Tier 1. ~2500 games if Paul is to be believed.

Why would you assume that Player Skill Rating has anything to do with how much money you haven't spent?

Some of the ideas that get shared around here make my head hurt.

I am guessing this is a troll post from the OP?

Personally I enjoyed tier 5 and 4. Not for clubbing seals but because I was able to run oddball loadouts that did not conform to alpha warrior online. Sadly even while doing this my tier is slowly creeping up. Tier 4 was a sad day, Tier 3 was even sadder as I realized that no matter what I do eventually I will be in tier 1 with the try hard killjoys (not all of you some of you are still fun).

I just finished a match with my 54kph half armor Gauss Urbie. Though I pulled a solid 300 damage I doubt I will be able to run that when I get to tier 2 or 1 :(
