It is sad, but this community has players who think killing a disconnected guy is an achievement or even skillful. the only thing i see is bad sportsmanship.

we see nearly every single game dropping 1-2 guys out of the match, pretty sure it is not their own fault, most of the time. often the disconnects happen at the match beginning. this is the time of our glorious light pilots, full throttle and kill dat boon

by giving disconnected ones a short time of invulnerability they have at least a chance to reconnect. most of the time i need slightly more than one minute to reconnect, often i am already killed until my return.

it is sad to come up with such an idea, but some people are just idiots.

I'd rather say the game's AI take over that mech and behave as a turret while the pilot is DC (as in, knocked out or something).
Once the player connects back, the turret effect is disabled.

Problem here would be the drop placement, half the team drops facing the other way, backs turned over to the opponent, so in a case of a DC, the AI would turn (just turn, not move away) the mech facing the enemies droppoints and then behave like a turret until the user connects back.

Now, the idea of a magic yellow shield resembles too much to hawken and other kind of mech games with little to no reason for it to happen.

Just take the mech, turn facing the enemies drop points and behave as a turret until the player connects back. Use the ammo and weapons as they can be used.

How about none of the above, personally i would just take the disconnect cooldown penalties and try find another match.

Once penalties stack up go find something els to do and don't friggin play.

Its their glitch ridden unstable game and they limit your choice as a player and penalize the player for it so if any of this rubbish gets in you're way then let the game go un played.

I´m not proud of killing discos. But ´lil Lolcust gotta eat :D

But most of the time I´ll wait till mid match to get discos, except if I see someone taking minutes to dmg farm them then I get the kill so the tool gets back to the actual fight.

So, players see's he is about to die and DC's to become invulnerable.

Enemy cant kill, so they move on.

Player's rejoins, still alive, and plays on.

Took me all of 2 seconds to find out how to exploit to my benefit. If I can figure it out this early and without coffee, just imagine what people will do when they do think about it.

Only applies to people who are disconnected at the start of the game. Took me 2 seconds to remedy it.
Two minute shield should be more than enough. *edit* Once the guy joins the game, the shield will be removed.

Once every map gets dropships, the player should not even be dropped on the map if he is DC from the start. The drop ship should only come once he relogs.

Just leave the mech inside the Dropship until the Mechwarrior reconnect, or after 1 minute of match.

As PGI stated before, every map will be reworked so, someday, this mechanic can be applied without much trouble.

No, and I'll tell you why.

Even a minute can make a difference. If a player disconnects during battle, the other players don't just stop attacking each other till that player gets back. Both teams continue to slug it out stripping armor and losing limbs, internals, and weapons.

The whole time a player (who may even have been untouched when they disco'd) can't be harmed. When that player finally reconnects they have a fresh mech to take into battle when the other team has been sufficiently softened up. To me, THAT seems unfair.

So no, I don't think a disco should be invulnerable. Not for a minute, two min, 30 seconds, anything.

P.S. Shooting a disco isn't bad sportsmanship for the reason stated above. I am not going to play a match where it looks like we will squeak out a win (badly damaged and weak) and have a fresh reconnect wreck us and shift the tide of the match just because we were being "chivalrous".

Sorry, you disco (accidental or otherwise) and if I find you, I'm eliminating you as a potential threat down the line. I'm sorry for your misfortune.

But Op only states it often happens at start and make no distinction when the shield is able to go up, start or at any DC. Just states this is for light pilots, meaning himself.

So, this just for light pilots at start or any pilot at start?

Only at match start or at any DC? DC issues dont only happen at start.

Keep in mind El, early and just started coffee so neurons not firing....

;)

Still don't like it, that is a 2 minute delay in taking damage bonus a person doesn't need. Teams can start swapping shots within 30 seconds of a match on some maps.

If you disconnect on a map during loading, even with a client crash, you should be able to get in match within 30 ~ 45 seconds. Two minutes is definitely not needed.

If the other team can find and kill you at your spawn within two minutes then there are bigger things to worry about in that round.
And if it's your own team doing the TKing then there are even bigger things to worry about.

I'm picturing a light mech sneaking behind the enemy for a base cap on Assault. He spots a disco at spawn he can't damage, shrugs it off and goes and sits in base for a cap. Boom! legged or headshot by the mech that just reconnected. God shield FTW! lol.

"the only thing i see is bad sportsmanship."

I do this. As a fast light, my routine is usually to loop around to get behind the enemy. Usually I can find an assault left behind, and even if I can't kill him, I can delay his arrival to the main battle for a few mins. If I don't find an abandoned assault, I then approach Red Team's deathball from the rear and pop a UAV (because most won't notice one behind them). Then I look for engagement opportunities that will make Red Team face my direction instead of my team's FEBA.

I can't do all that if I leave a disconnected enemy mech behind me. In the past when I have tried to be nice about it, inevitably I got ambushed from behind by the guy who reconnected after I left him alive. I can't take that risk in a light mech.

So its more about survival than poor sportsmanship.

actually I meant only players disconnecting at the beginning of a match should have the time of rejoining without being able to get damaged. during a match, this could be exploited.

It's not about skill or anything when you kill a DC'd mech quickly. It's an opportunity that life presents to you. You can give your team an easy +1 advantage by killing before it reconnects or you can walk past it and have it shoot you in the back.

Crimson Straight, Caustic Valley, Frozen City... Two minutes is more than enough to find the other side's DC mechs, especially on the west side.

You did not understand me correctly. The 2 minute damage nullification will be removed once the guy joins the game.

What is this even? During the time when the player is discoed your team will have one man advantage over the enemy. Just consider it a late reinforcement to a numerically disadvantaged side.

Matter of fact, once every map gets dropships, the player should not even be dropped on the map if he is DC from the start. The drop ship should only come once he relogs.

I understood you that it was UP TO 2 min max, I'm just saying a lot can happen in that time if it takes two minutes to connect. I'm also pointing out it shouldn't take 2 minutes regardless so that time seems a bit unnecessary anyway.

As for this "what is this even", the team with a disco doesn't truly have a one man disadvantage unless that player never reconnects. Instead, your team has a mech held up in the rear that is invulnerable for up to a max of 2 min that could come live at any time and surprise a base capper or ambush the enemy ignoring what they thought was a disco player they couldn't safely take out of the picture due to invulnerability.

No, what we have is fine. Its just bum luck if you disco and can't get back into a match in time. Crap happens, move on.

P.s. I will give you this, a drop ship insertion for a disco would help prevent farming a disco and would alert the team/capper to an enemy being dropped near by. At least that helps make it more fair.

I do agree with Sjorpha though, discos shouldn't yield rewards as it is now.

To begin with you shouldn't get any rewards (damage, kills etc) for shooting at discos, and discos should count as dead for the purpose of winning a match.

That would still allow you to kill discos and not be exploitable, but it would remove the farming for score aspect which is a big part of the problem.

speak for yourself. When I crash, it can often take 2-3 attempts to get back on PGIs client. I don't have a SSD, so yeah, it can take 2-3 minutes.
