How's this...

Stays the way it is until drop ship insertion is instituted into every map (and like Sjorpha said, no rewards for killing or damaging a disconnect while disconnected).

Once Drop ship insertions are added to every match...

Drop ship keeps a disconnect on board and doesn't drop him. If a Disconnect player can get reconnected within 2 min, he can be reinserted via drop ship giving the enemy ample time to react.

If a player can't reconnect within 2 min, the player misses his/her drop window, the drop ship is now in orbit heading back to the jump ship, you have to take a disqualification and miss the match. This prevents a healthy mech from shifting the tide of combat with a fresh mech attacking weakened units that were contributing to combat.

This means no destruction while trying to reconnect, no farming a disco, no dropping a player into combat fresh when a team has been weakened (which is much more likely over a 2 min mark vs under a 2 min mark).

Is that more fair?

I do not see how this will be a positive effect on the game. Usually for myself I get DC'ed right when I hit combat (not at the start like so many others) which makes even a shield for 30 seconds pointless. I also do have an SSD and such but it wouldn't make a difference. My suggestion would be if the player came back after being disco'ed to find their mech destroyed then don't take the stats for that match. I will admit it happens so far and few in between for myself so it doesn't affect my stats but for others it might be more frequent.

The only issue I see with that is that some players are really overly protective of their KDR or Tier. If they think the match will go badly or they will die, them may intentionally disconnect to preserve their stats. That could cause a serious problem IMO.

I have the same problem. Client crashes once each 20 matches, more or less, and takes up to 3 minutes to rejoin:
> About 30 seconds to debug tool close the game (less if ctrl+alt+del and finishing process)
> Several seconds to load patcher
> press spacebar like crazy to skip movies
> type password as fast as my damn fingers can
> get mad because Caps Locks was on thanks to in-game Voip push-to-talk hotkey
> type password as fast as my damn fingers can
> Connecting, just a few seconds
> Loading mechlab, several seconds
> Minimize News window
> Click Rejoin like there is no tomorrow

I see disconnected Mechs as potential threats later on and so I treat them as such.

In addition, why is the rest of the team not protecting their disconnected companions but instead NASCAR off to the blue yonder?

seems to vary from patch to patch. If I am disconnecting frequently, I just stop playing and do something else, TBH

Once they get dropships in all maps, it would be cool if the dropship just doesn't drop the mech, citing "mechanical trouble" or something. Once the player connects for real, the dropship comes by.

do all that...but factor it always takes 2-3 attempts to actually log on the mechlab......

U can use it as a exploit.
Wait 4mins till all enemys are yellow or red damaged,
reconnect with your fresh mech and farm kills

Not sure if the OP's suggestion could be exploited, but I think we all have been disconnected at some point and a little protection for a very short time would be a good thing.

DCed mechs should definitely get Godshield and teleported back to Stormwind. Sounds about right. Real Battletech and all.
