No. I meant you do not earn anything in private matches, no XP and no c-bills. So it's not a good route if you're leveling mechs or you need to buy something using the in-game currency..

You shouldn't be able to level with them. It's far too easy to exploit the system to earn rewards with. Get some buddies together, run through roflstomps for 45 minutes together and rake in millions.

I guess you have never heard and seen a computer go up in smoke after overheating from aggressive overclocking. It was not a whine, though, but rather like a million voices crying out in unison, then suddenly silenced.. :o

Well I have seen the smoke but never that cry, besides, I have never seen a Computer Over-Clock itself... ;)

Private Matches provide what many here want though. They can Choose those things that are currently not personally select-able. Team size, Map, Mode so I guess it is a trade off.

If allowed to gain XP and C-Bills in Private, although another possible tributary to PGI's revenue stream, plus the inevitable complaints from the "I want it all for FREE panty bunching crowd", it is highly likely to become another "Bucket" that further separates the Player base. (despite the Bucket already existing, it see limited use as is) :)

There does seem to be some consensus that a small community should not have to many Buckets on the go all at he same time. ;)

let a player set a "preference" so that those game modes come up more often for them.

This is probably the best option. I think we needed to combine player pools, as sucky as it is for some people. For such a small community to have 7 different groups is crazy. But there has to be enough people so that MM can still put you in conquest at least half the time. Or skirmish 90% of the time. Personally, I don't really care anymore, I just want good teammates and opponents. I'll do what I have to do in any mode.

I think everyone, including PGI, is starting to realize that the community is small and there are going to have to be some comrpromises on some things

I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping the steam release goes well. I'm going to do my part by keeping plenty of beer on hand and be as nice as possible to the pugs who decide to bring LRM crabs in to my glorious tier 1 matches.

I think the steam launch will go well. The game itself is in a good place to release to the public (so to speak). It's playable, it's fairly well balanced and the MM system is streamlined to allow faster launches.

The community we have here is going to surprise some people I think. If PGI presents a smooth launch, the players will take care of the rest and help build a community of fans and customers.

Is positivity contagious? I bet it is. With my luck I probably have it by now.... I'm going to go drink that beer I was talking about and try to flush it out of my system.

lol I think it's just our community in general. Just about everyone here is friendly and a Btech fan. Most of us have run groups, leagues, worked as a commando for FASA, and love talking about Btech and answering questions about lore and such. New players will find a cool area to find more information about the game. If PGI will create lobbies you'll really see the community flourish.

Compromise generally involves a little give and take from both sides, and personally it feels more like a one way street than an actual compromise. At what point do they begin to understand kicking one side or the other in the nuts again and again isn't going to fix the underlying problems the game is having? Sure, changes like these help for a time, but it doesn't do anything in the long run. The more you make things condensed and shallow the less overall enjoyment people are going to have which leads to lower and lower player retention. What act of desperation will they try next? Merge group queue and solo queue? That would be great as far as I am concerned, but not everyone is going to accept that. Are we going to just tell them that they need to accept this compromise because the player base is smaller now? What do we do after that if you end up needing yet again to condense things after that previous group felt the compromise wasn't much of a compromise so much as a total disregard for their enjoyment?

Speaking of Steam maybe they should have waited until after the release to see how the population looks before adding the voting system. If we got a nice bump in players we wouldn't have needed these changes, and you wouldn't have a bunch of disgruntled players salivating at the chance to trash the game in the player review section of Steam. They shot themselves in the foot if you ask me, and they are squandering the opportunity that the Steam launch provides.

Are you a conquest fan? Or the assault pilot who hates getting suck on conquest? I can't remember. If either of those I can absolutely sympathise. I stopped caring about mode myself. I'd rather have a good team on conquest (which I don't like) than a bad team on skirmish. How do you feel you've been repeatedly kicked in the nuts? Aside from the normal balance stuff this combining of players and voting is the only really big change I'm aware of.
