Considering the old random map selection was just fine from my POV:

For now I'm just going to have to take your word for it because I am currently very busy with something else ( ;)) to find out for myself.

We've also both been here long enough to know that individual result will vary as well. I have no doubt that some are experiencing map and mode streaks and having a "bad" experience with the new system, just as I'm sure there are players like myself that have been lucky enough to have a pretty balanced and pleasurable experience with the new system.

I'd rather we see a few tweaks to the current system than see it go away. I love the voting option. It helps add some diversity to the field and gives players who build specific mechs for specific mdoes and maps a harder time than the players who build balanced mech designs. It's a trade-off to me.

The voting system isn't perfect by far, but it's a good start to implementing systems that will help ensure a little more diversity in the meta.

I quite like the map voting. Multipliers or not. The really ugly maps (terra, caustic) rarely get voted for.

I'd really like to preselect game modes again though. Not having to play Skirmish really made the game more enjoyable for me.

Hahahahahahahahahaha. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Isn't this a swell day--a time when you can call anything and everything you like ignorant!

Once upon a time there was a man named Sir Isaac Newton and on a bright sunny day an apple fell and bonked him on the head.

"Egad! I got it! It's gravity that made this apple fall!" He shouted and ran right off to his lab to work formulae on parchment. After some time--many years to be exact, he emerged, eyes swollen, blackened beneath, hair frazzled but with a new truth.

"Today! London! Men of country! I give you something new! I give you... calculus! And it will help us solve these physical problems with mathematics and set the world on a course anew!" He preached atop a podium in the square.

"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! HISSSSS!" Went the crowd. Numerous vegetables and rotten pieces of animal drippings flew at him on the stage. He ducked. He covered. He stood up again.

"What is this! I give you answers! Through math and science we can solve some of the greatest problems and bring upon a new age!"

"What a prat!"

"Imbecile!"

"Ignorant knave!"

Various insults where hurled in a nasty slurry. Mister Newton, not to be defeated, walked off, uncompromised and undefeated, off to his room where he stayed for years to come as he wrought fantastic prognostication.

For you see, the townfolk that called him ignorant, 'twas not he, Mister Newton, the dullard that would be, for 'twas they, instead, who had heads stuffed full of hay.

Now do you see the fallacy of your entire notion?

Perhaps try and come up with a sound rebuttal, next time, okay?

You sir are no Isaac Newton, but keep dreaming and maybe one day you will make a valid point.

What maybe might be a good idea to improve the voting system, is to allow switching mechs within weight class after map and mode selection. Maybe out of a preconfiguered set to speed things up. I think I'd like that!

I have a much better idea: random map and game mode selection. It's easy. It's fast. it's fair.

Maybe. But it sucks. Which makes it a really bad idea in my book.

Why?

It's much easier for player to "force" the MM to selectively choose the very narrow scope of maps and modes that an individual only wants to play. It goes beyond the "fun factor", it goes to the extreme that those who don't want to play inside that narrow scope are forced to or face extremely long wait times.

The only part I can really see anyone getting ansty about is the mode selection. I would have either left this one random OR let a player set a "preference" so that those game modes come up more often for them. Much easier and a combination of two systems to help create more variety as well as setting up a more enjoyable environment for those that prefer a specific game mode.

On top of this there's always private and custom matches available. There are options, I just think it needs to be adjusted slightly to create a better experience overall for everyone. I like the current system, but I can see where the mode selection would be frustrating to some.

Still erring I see. Nobody declared you as the authority of valid points. Now if you'd please, take a seat over there --> in the naughty chair.

:)

By the way, isn't war and hippy a contradictory term. I mean, if you shoot another robot, well then, you can't quite be a hippy, now can you?

Unfortunately, you don't earn any XP or c-bills in private matches. And it's an extra effort to organize. As such, that's not a viable solution for many.

Have you read the event notes?
Gaming with multipliers will get you in trouble.

But in fact, the whole voting idea is abysmal.

By viable do you mean the premium time thing? Well here's the thing. Solo players like that, that's the whole incentive for them to carry some premium time. Or to get a group of like-minded players together and set up a little league of friends to maintain an account like that.
Like it or not, this IS a multiplayer game and you have to play with others. You're part of the community every time you hit launch.

No. I meant you do not earn anything in private matches, no XP and no c-bills. So it's not a good route if you're leveling mechs or you need to buy something using the in-game currency..

Why the hell would I buy premium time just to waste it on private matches? Maybe if one were running some side competition or league of some sorts that used set matches to determine planetary control...but I thought that was supposed to be part of the game anyway?

I'm OK with multipliers. At least I seem to see slightly different maps this since it was implemented.

As far as I'm concern though, I'm still picking the 3rd map, and 2nd game mode no matter what it is.

Because of this system I am thinking of playing CW with unmastered mechs.

Go ahead. Many of my Clan Mechs were mastered while playing CW.

That is just your opinion on the maps. Those are the best maps in others' opinion. Voting has to be taken out of the game. Completely.
