I have been reading the forums a bit, and have seen quite a few ppl that are (Like myself) more than willing to take the time to help ppl that are new to MechWarrior.

As we all know the learning curve for this game is off the chart. We not only have a tactical robot battle simulation, but we also have a mechlab. I could easily imagine a new player playing a few matches and then spending some time in the mechlab, wasting all his hard earned c-bills on a "bad build". Then going back into battle and getting ripped apart after which he quits because the game is frustrating. We don't want that to happen!

So here is my suggestion. We should have some sort of mentor-ship for the new players. We the old warriors that have the patience and time, can put our self on a list of some kind. That would identify us as some one to contact if you need help with learning the game. We could even have a mentor tag or title in the ingame chat window to make it easier to see who to ask for help. I myself would even be ok with helping a group of new players in the mechlab and then running training matches. 12 vs 12 with only one or two mentors on each side to help point ppl in the right direction, and give some tactical advice.

This I believe would do a great deal in keeping the new players from quiting because the game is complex, and even better make them into long time fans like us B).

Great idea. maybe a special paintjob for mentors to mark them out more in battle? speciao that new players can stick with a herd in a fight. another idea would be 12 vs. 12 matches but the mentors don't actually fight, instead they have 12 views one from each player and with void they could give helping pointers

Id be more onboard for the mentor mech kinda thing with tag, with some kind of option to spectate your student(s) and then let them know where they are going wrong after battle. Nice suggestion :)

This is really worth a thought. I remember when i started playing EVE....i didn't know anything and the tutorials were pretty bad at that time.
If i hadn't gotten help from the veterans i would have made a bunch of bad choices.

A tag like that sounds good. We might want to post in our ingame profile what we are willing to help with though.
I would be willing to help out with giving tactical advice, the mechlab etc. But i would rather not participate in training matches.

There should be a like button beside the Mentor tag so that they know who is good at giving advice or not.
No dislike button though since the trolls would have a fieldday with that. There should also be a lamp that we can switch on or off that indicates wether or not we are currently available to help out or not.

The alternative is to only allow the moderators to do it, but they have enough on their plate as it is.

This is a great idea.

Maybe open up a new tutorial sub-forum where members can link youtube tutorial videos and new players can ask for help.
