Sicne I got the game... in 2013, I am working toward trying to get the "Elite" skills for my mechs.

Since my first mech was a catapult, I am trying to get that for the catapults.

The thing is: it has been really hard to do so :/ Very grindy... Is it worth it? It makes a good difference? Or I should just abandon the plan and when I have enough cbills just buy as my third mech whatever other mech I think is better than a catapult?

Also: How I get the "Master" skill?

At the moment yes. It is worth it. The speed and heat characteristics really improves your mechs handling. The pinpoint "branch" doesn't do anything.

Note however that in the PTS 4 proposals the skills tree is nerfed to the point where Basics are about as good as it will get. So if the proposed changes enter the game then under those proposals I would say mastering and eliteing become far less important.

So we have elite skills that are useless and they will be removed anyway?

That is... bad.

I think I will stop playing again and return in 2017, maybe THEN the game will be actually done. (there are other issues beyond the skills too, like wrong equipment flavour text, missing text and info from CW, no explanation on wtf is ghost heat, non-working mech monitors, and the lies gooooes on).

yes, the public test skill tree drastically downgrade all skills except speed tweek, however you will still get double basics they just go down from 30-50% boosts to 5-10% boosts at maximum.

I am personally hoping the reduced skill tree is just a placeholder for a complete replacement with an actual tree where you can choose which branches you want to explore, and do not get the option to explore all branches on a single chassis, and some are only available to specific chassis/variants as opposed to the current you always have to explore every branch if you want to get the best out of it.

so for the next few weeks eliting a chassis gives you a significant boost but in a month or 2 that will likely no longer be the case

what jedi said.
I've no idea why it's called skill "tree" to begin with, more like skill bamboo then anything else.
I really hope it will change into something which will actually enforce to choose one skill over another.
Like, heat dispension OR heat capacity or yaw angle OR yaw speed, acceleration OR deceleration, for example.

Edit: forgot what i actually wanted to comment on the topic, lel

Eliting IS worth it, because you can unlock the master module slot.
Master slot can be filled with mech or weapon module which is darn worth it.

Honestly, if you expect little things to be fixed by 2017, you should pass. As a F2P game, there will always be things that are incomplete especially with such a small dev team and a niche game. There are certainly bigger things to be concerned about than flavor text. If you like the overall game, that's the important part.

so what's the point of nerfing mastery bonuses besides selling new mechs that won't need them?

I agree.
They should have been honest like so many times before and just removed the mech skilltree and the pilot skilltree as well.
Just buy modules of different strength.
But like before they shy away to remove things that have had contact with real money. XP --> GXP convertion and vice versa.
So ppl payed actualy for something that will now be nerfed into meaninglessnes.
Leaving it ingame as bare shell is nothing but an alibi.
When the... "skillsystem"... was introduced it was said to nothing but a temporary placeholder to be replaced by a more complete and meaningfull system before introduction of CW wich should have been introduced 6-9 months after the end of closed beta.
Do you remember how long it took to get actually that what is called CW nowadays ?
*sigh* sure there werent just displeasing news in the junger past but....there is soooooooo much wasted potential.

Back to topic....I wonder ....
You say you play since 2013... and you dont have mastered your Catapults.
I play 1 - 3 times a week never more than 7- 12 matches in one session most times far less matches.
And I elited several chassis in that time.
Do you have 3 Catapult variants ?
You know you have to first basic them all then elite two of them to unlock master ?
What took you so long ?

In 2013 the game was so absurdly grindy, that I realized it would take me (at my pace then) 3 months of playing to buy a second variant, I was pissed of and quit, despite loving the combat gameplay.

Recently in Reddit someone pointed out the game is less grindy, so I came back, I already had a bunch of c-bills saved, and got 3 days of free premium thing, with it I could quickly get a second catapult.

But now without the premium, it will take a long time before I can get my third (still much less than 2013 though!) thus why I made the post asking if it was actually worth it.

In 2013, it should have only taken a couple of days to buy your next mech (average earnings, with R&R was 200-350k per match). When they removed R&R and disembowelled the rewards with Open Beta, *that's* when it got very grindy.

Rewards have recently gone up. It is now not unusual to earn 600k+ (with win bonus) on a community warfare match (1M+ has been occasionally reported).

Ok, there are some other reasons to get a second and third chassis of the same Mech.
The Catapult is in a quite favorable weight spot.
With 65 tonns its one of the mechs you can easylie take to CW.
Get 3 Pults and .... say 3 Griffins, Wolverins or Shadowhawks and you got with eliting just two chassis a good Drop deck.

The K2 is a decent direkt fire support platform and the A1 is still a deadly missile platform.
Nothing wrong with Catapult its just...old.

Edit: Yea and dont listen to ppl hyping rewards on CW. As long as you dont get a decent team, elited Mechs and /or you realy are able to kick some serious A.s, the reward time ratio you will get is just beeing called poor because using any more extreme word would be bannably vulgar. ;)
